UPDATED/VIDEO ' NEW PITCH FOR NEXT GAME AT CCS '

Tue Jan 12, 2016 9:37 am

UPDATED :ayatollah:

Cardiff City FC can confirm that the pitch at Cardiff City Stadium is in the process of being re-laid, in time for the Bluebirds’ next Sky Bet Championship home match against Rotherham United on 23rd January, 2016.

Following discussions within the Club, the procedure at Cardiff City Stadium began today (12/01), as the playing surface was stripped away, prior to the replacement turf being laid in the coming days.

This morning, Cardiff City Player HD spoke exclusively to Head of Stadium Operations, Wayne Nash, who first explained the process leading up to the decision to returf the pitch.

“We had a cycle of deterioration that led to us having to make a decision about the returf, working with Ken [Choo] and Russell [Slade], in what’s best for the team,” began Wayne.

“We took a window of opportunity with the weather for us to resurface and that’s what you can see being undertaken at the stadium today.”

Wayne went on to detail the procedure that has been put in place for the remainder of the 2015/16 season and beyond, so as to maintain a quality surface at Cardiff City Stadium, adding: “We’ll strip it out and then resurface this week. It will be ready on Saturday or Sunday.

“We’ll let it settle down for a couple of days, before letting the boys have a run on it at the end of next week. It will then be ready for the match against Rotherham United.

“That will stay in with us until the end of the season, when we’ll strip it out again and get back to the sand base. After the concert series that we have in June 2016, we'll reseed it down ready for next year's season.”

Watch the video below for more on the pitch returf, including a time-lapse of today's work! An extended version is available to view on Cardiff City Player HD.

Under 2 weeks to relay it!!!

that's amazing. I had my lawn re turfed last year and I wasn't allowed to walk on it for 4 weeks let alone play footy!

Was this more bad management and cost cutting, that eventually led to a bigger cost?
Maybe proper maintenance would have prevented this.

I know someone who would be perfect for looking after our pitch but he's too busy playing head of security (and making a c**t of himself) at ccfc.

Noah had less rain that what we've had the last couple of months. Plus the fact it wasn't relayed in the summer due to Wales commitments

They can lay a pitch in the middle of winter in a matter of days but it was not possible pre season due to Welsh team commitments, that don't make any sense to me.

Corky I was going to say the same, there would have been more time than 2 weeks after the Wales game!

You're probably right there Corky, that's just the excuse that I've read. Seen they want the FAW to fund part of the cost.

Also pissed down in Swansea, Manchester, Dundee etc for the last 10 weeks and all their pitches are way better than ours. Even Oxford's pitch was better than ours. Our pitch is a desso and we've got the growing lights. Something wrong somewhere

And they probably all got resurfaced in the summer, ours didn't.

Are the FAW contributing to the cost? Only seems right if Wales are playing there or do they pay us a fee for using it and we have to maintain it ouselves?

Corky, a pitch laid in the summer would have been seeded with the artificial turf and then the grass would grow, obviously that cannot happen now so they are laying proper turf, already grown, and then after the season ends, they will do the whole business, hope that explains it

You are guessing that they were. Also why wasn't ours? Especially if it can be done in a two week slot. The Wales game was in June !! Plenty of time to get it sorted.

DOH! a proper pitch cannot be relaid in days, I wish people would read all posts before posting themselves It take many weeks to lay a proper pitch as the grass is seeded and interlaced with the artificial stuff, what they are putting down now is already grown

Ps there was not enough time for the grass to grow before the Wales game

They seed it in summer not relay it ,I'm sure that the cost of this is massive coz it's returffing it

A lot more expensive now as well

Thought it was seeded and sewn but obviously not. Has it under soil heating and drainage system?

Re: ' NEW PITCH FOR NEXT GAME AT CCS '

The club undoubtedly thought the pitch could make it through the season, with the preparations they were left with after the wales games, however, with the wet winter, it obviously just hasn't been possible. I doubt its an exact science, as you never know how bad/wet/cold the winter will turn out to be.

Ours is seeded so can't be re turfed which is a shame as it is in shocking condition.
