The Owls host Championship leaders Wolves on Friday and Carvalhal will be axed if they fail to impress, according to The Sun on Sunday.
He has guided the club to back-to-back play-off finishes but they've not been up to scratch this season.
Wednesday are winless in five games and sit 14th in the Championship table - 10 points behind sixth-placed Sheffield United.
Hillsborough chiefs are reportedly planning a January transfer spree but are reluctant to splash the cash with Carvalhal still in charge.
It’s claimed a poor performance against Wolves would result in the end of Carvalhal’s two-and-a-half-year reign.
