That game was a bloody nightmare, very scary especially outside going past their pub before the game but I would still say the Spurs game circa the same period as being more terrifying, every single window on our coach was smashed, Me and two mates went into the hospital nearby to hide, left the hossie at 15:10 and bought Spurs scarf's just to get to the ground, zero segregation and being picked off one by one, revenge was had later in the day when stopping near Swindon (Marlborough) one coach of Spurs fans in there, equal numbers, severe retribution dished out, I do not condone violence, it's just the way it was in those days if you went away.

The Old Den by a mile, everything about that place was mad. I was in my mid teens & trapped with a bunch of lunatics in butchers coats wanting me & a few mates to take a walk for a bit of the old ultra violence & a old guy in his seventies bellowing in my ear " you've come to the wrong place me old son,the boys will cut you up". :o Young or old it did'nt matter, they were all f*cking nuts.

millwall late 70's.plod asked us to help them if it kicked off we had about 50.there was a fence with no gate dividing fans and they just walked through threw a few punches and walked back f*cking scary.
west ham early 80's just a naughty scary place

I also went to the Millwall game in 82 but I don't remember it being that bad. Mind you our coach was one of the last to arrive so we missed the bother before hand but we did get bricked afterwards going through New Cross.

Probably the most uncomfortable 90 minutes was Wembley in 83 against England. We only only had a few hundred in one of the lower tiers and we had England behind us and on both sides with only those poxy little dividing walls between us.

Although i never went, West Ham in the late 70's to early 80's must have been hell of a place to visit. They had a mob at the time that must have been the meanest bunch of bastards ever to assemble on the terraces.

I only started goign to City away games in 2003 when I turned an age that my mates wanted to go, but before never had anyone to go with and was shit scared of you lads :P I remeber though in 2003 we played Burnley at Turf Moor, and our car wouldn't start after the game and we was in the middle of a housing estate next tot he ground and about 20 Burnley fans came at me and my mate. We handled ourselves well although we eventually had the shit kicked out of us, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) the plod came along and made sure we was alright and helped start the car. f*cking hated Burnley ever since......would like to see them start on me now :P

I was 17 in 1978 going to places likes West Ham & Spurs with my friends the same age, my lad is 17, I would not allow him the same freedom today even though it's far better controlled now, I'm glad he has no interest in away games.

brisol city 85/86 got caught with the flow at end of game and couldnt find where the buses were parked i walked around ground only to find they had fucked off, so i walked through a car park on my own to catch up with the train escort. someone shouted where you from mate and i started running with a small mob in hot pursuit a bloke wearing a scarf in his 30's tried tripping me up but i side stepped him and made it to the safety of the coppers bringing up the rear of the escort. i had other close calls that season at bristol rovers and jackland (i was braver there and got stick in mind). i was only 15 that day but i was 6 ft dressed in my best casual gear so i was fair game to them. hated them ever since

Boothferry park,we had 3 coaches booked the ob cancelled 2 so only 1 went up there & that only had 30 of us cos I think we left about 5am  and 20 lads didn't bother turning up. We stopped at goole, just outside hull, the ob clocked us & took us by train ,the walk from the station took ages & it was pretty intimidating as even normal Saturday shoppers were doing the finger across the throat to us :ayatollah: still good fun when you look back

Chelsea v Cardiff, October 2nd 1977.
I remember the date coz it was the day after my 21st birthday and my head was pounding all day.
We'd taken a coach load up from Llanrumney and at the game it bucketed down but we just started sining "singin in the rain".
The game wasn't intimidating, even though one Llanrumney boy got a dart in his scalp, but after the game we went to a pub in Paddington and bumped into QPRs mob coming back from an away match. I don't mind admiting that my arse was twitching for Wales that night. On the coach back my stinking hangover had cleared and while everyone else was fucked from the long day I was up singing and winding everyone up. How the f**k I didn't get a kicking from the lads I'll never know.
Sweet Memories. :old:

i was about 16 at hull (old ground) on a friday night, they were goin bust and everyone was allowed in for a quid, they put us in a little pitchside corner in the home end, there was about 200 city,we won 2-0 i think,Dai Thomas scored 2 on his debut and about 5 hull boys,6ft tall and 6ft wide amongst the city fans askin if any cardiff wanted it?these guys stood right next to me and my mate,6ft and 10 stone between us haha

Fred, was that the game we lost 5-1? If so, that was the most frightening day i ever had, 3 coachloads of us & i've got to admit it they had no more than 20 & none of us were going to stay & have a go at them, they just came straight at us with two of our lads stabbed & one with a broken glass in the neck. I was 15 at the time with a mate from school, they were wild times going to certain grounds then & i'll never forget a few of us asking the old bill for some protection & one of them turning to us & saying "you f**k off, i'm not risking my neck for you bastards". No ground segregation then & it was a far cry from the bouncing & hand gestures of today, their main intent was to do as much damage to you as possible.Crazy times following your team away but in a strange way i'm glad i went through it.

Yes that was definitely the most frightening game i have been to as well, there were 40 - 50 year olds in the Millwall end making cut throat gestures and one showed us a knife he had inside his jacket absolutely shit myself although it didn't stop me chanting we want 5 and winding F troop up even more :D

Obvious ones for me would be the usual suspects, Hammers away 78ish Millwall FA Cup 83/4 ish. But the worse I witnessed was World Cup Qualifier Wales v Jocks at Anfield 78. It seemed there were about 20 drunken jocks to every welshman. There was a small bunch of us pinned in a corner of the Kop, surrounded by them, we had everything thrown at us, flagon bottles, flagpoles possibly even haggis`s and sporrans. In fairness Wales had a go back at them, but their numbers were unbelievable.Coming out of the ground was just as bad, as there were sweaties and scousers everywhere asking the immortal question "have you got the right time mate" In fairness to the scousers though, most joined up with us after the game against the jocks. Everyone travelling back on our coach had an injury of some sort. I suppose we had our revenge in some ways though when it kicked off on the Bob Bank with the jocks during the qualifier at Niniain in 85/86, although my memories of this are vague having been on the piss since 11.00am with Mrs Ramsgate that day. Halcyon days.

Funny enough most frightening was Millwall in 82' but i was in the Kop that night in '78 and it was like the siege at Rorkes Drift the only difference being there seemed to be more Jocks than Zulus. I was never really one for trouble but that's the biggest hiding i have ever taken at the footie and there was no way of avoiding it.

As you said the Welsh there put up a fair fight and everyone seemed to take a turn at going to the front and having a go but the numbers really were over whelming that night!
