Good display in Valencia. As we played a lot of the reserves in Valencia, Britton, Williams, Davies, Shelvey and Routledge all well rested so should be fresh for Palace. Great game we could even sunbathe while we watched the match as the ground was uncovered at we were at the top! Nice to be cheered and clapped by the home supporters who were all waving white flags and hankys as there own players. Not sure what happend to all the Valencia fanatics behind the goal. They completely cleared their seats at half time and only came back when we scored our second. Funny time to take a fiesta.

They were rubbish when they had 11 so when they went down to 10 they were as bad as QPR last season.

Cardiff city beating real Madrid was a great result :ayatollah:
of all the british clubs though the Scabs of Nottingham Forest have pulled off the most great wins in europe.
beating fc cologne out there in the semi final of the european cup after a 3-3 draw at home.
knocking holders liverpool out in round one 1979 european cup.
Winning the european cup against Malmo 1979.
beating fc hamburg keegan an all in 1980 to win the european cup.
all done by a small midlands club with free transfers and mostly players nobody else wanted.Plus players picked up from non league.
Brian Clough mad as a hatter but pure genius at that time. :notworthy:

Weren't they the first club to pay a million for a player when they bought Trevor Francis , the goal scorer against malmo

Re: LEIGHTON JAMES

Dean Saunders on SSN said the first was a world class goal. Clueless t**t
A hopeful cross into the penalty area, behind the player it was probably aimed for and Bony 's shot straight at the goalie deflected in. He would not have scored without the deflection.

Score hardly a surpirse.

That's like saying in boxing ''he had a cut eye hamper him from the second round on, no wonder he lost''. the fact he had a cut eye was due to his superior opponent.

Valencia were down to 10 men because our slick passing caught them out allowing Bony through on goal leaving their defender feel he had no other choice but to haul him down from behind, rugby style.

playing 10 men isn't easy as everyone condenses the game especially against illustrious opponents (12th in the all time European standings). We stretched them perfectly and in honesty it could have been 6-0 quite easily with a squad that cost a quarter of theirs, and the majority of that on one man - Bony.

You really do talk bollocks. Valencia are crap. I watched them v Betis last weekend. A team totally disjointed and in turmoil. Even palace could beat them.

Keep thinking you are world beaters and remember the old saying that pride comes before a fall.

Re: LEIGHTON JAMES

the greatest performance by a welsh club in europe was cardiff citys win against real madrid 1-0

Re: LEIGHTON JAMES

Sat Sep 21, 2013 8:16 am

It was certainly the biggest and most famous result in their history.
Especially When you consider about 10 years ago Valencia were playing In a Final and Jacks were playing Carsile in LDV.
I do not accept any fan saying "yeah but they were down to 10 men" that's just nonsense. I can remeber a game against Reading at Ninian and they got a man sent off early on,we struggled to break em down and only managed a draw. They were probably the better side with only 10 men.

The control and tempo aided by the passing ability had Valencia in trouble and the fact that they got a player sent off only highlights the difference between the two sides.

When DeGuzman scored you could see several areas of the home support were standing up and clapping.

They were not Swansea fans they were just Football fans.

The result speaks volume for the rise in welsh football but to even put it in a category of greatest British victories in Europe shows how deluded the man is.

Any self respecting Swansea fan would denounce this clown.

spot on. Valencia finished 5th last year, pipped to 4th by 1 point. id imagine another top 6 finish this year will be on the cards too, bad start or not.

excellent result and performance.

It was a good win (didn't watch the match, but saw the free-kick) but you're talking bollocks with regards to the cost of the squads.

Valencia

13 Guaita (youth product)
04 Rami (6m)
19 Barragan (1.5m)
22 Mathieu (free)
08 Feghouli (free) (Pabon - 7.5m)
10 Banega (20m)
15 Javi Fuego (free)
18 Guardado (free)
23 Canales (7.5m) (Bernat - youth product)
28 Fede (youth product) (Costa - free)
09 Postiga (2.6m)

Total: 45.1m Euros = £38m

Swansea

01 Vorm (£1.5m)
02 Amat (2.5m)
04 Chico (£2m)
19 Tiendalli (free)
22 Rangel (£100k) (Davies - youth)
09 Michu (£2m) (Shelvey - £5m)
12 Dyer (£0.4M) (Lamah - loan)
20 De Guzman (loan)
21 Canas (free)
24 Pozuelo (undisc. around £0.5m)
10 Bony (£12m)

£26m

Now, considering you're one for stating facts, 25% is not entirely accurate is it? Particularly when Valencia's only big money signing was Banega at 20m Euros, who signed 5 years ago. In any case, decent result for you!

In other news, Leighton James is an fat, ugly, drunk, one-eyed jack b*stard :old:

As mentioned above Valencia are in turmoil atm.

They have sold their best players and are basically disjointed. Fortunately for them the Spanish league is not as strong as some think. After the top 6 the rest are below average compared to those outside the top 6 of the premier. I very much doubt Valencia will get top 6 this season but they wont go down.

They have played 4 league games. they are hardly in turmoil. Arsenal were in and around the relegation zone last year for what seemed like months. they ended up as they normally do. time will tell.

Re: LEIGHTON JAMES

Sat Sep 21, 2013 10:03 am

Alright I'll add the other players in as well...

Valencia:
Pereira - 3.6m
Herrero - 0.4m
Parejo - 6m
Alcácer - youth product
Goncalves - free
Ruiz - undisclosed, around 5m
Piatti - 7.5m
Alves - free

Total: 22.5m Euro = £19m
Adjusted total: £57m

Swansea:
Neil Taylor - £0.15m
Williams - £0.4m
Britton - free
Hernandez - £5.55m
Routledge - undisclosed, around £2m
Monk - free
Lita - £1.75m
Tremmel - free
Obeng - £0.2m
Donnelly - undisclosed, around £0.5m
Zabret - undisclosed, around £0.1m

Total: £10.65m
Adjusted total: £36.65m

Although it's quite a difference it's hardly 25% is it? In any case, it was a good result for you - but I think the magnitude of the result has been taken out of proportion. Having said that, if we battered a team in European competition from any of the top leagues (La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga) I'd probably jizz in my pants.
