' CARDIFF CITY CLUB STATEMENT '
Simon Lim
Chief Executive

January was a busy month for us; the fixture list was extremely tough, with three away games against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. Our shareholders have expressed their support and pleasure to the new management team. Tan Sri Vincent Tan, through the board of directors and with their support, is “encouraged by the work done by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the January transfer window.”

Solskjær was instrumental in attracting top professionals who have the experience and the willpower to make an immediate impact in the club’s desire to maintain its Premier League status. Kenwyne Jones, Fábio da Silva, Mats Møller Dæhli, Jo Inge Berget, Magnus Wolff Eikrem and free agent Juan Torres Ruiz have joined the club on a permanent basis. Wilfried Zaha joins us on loan from Manchester United. We are delighted with their arrival.

The process was transparent, creating value for the club throughout all of the transactions. For sake of good order and in being transparent, we can confirm that our total outgoing expenses, including transfer fees, levy, agent fees and signing on fees were approximately £6 million, less the income of approximately £3 million received from the sale of players. This is good business for the club, where all participants were fully informed and an integral part of a process.

There has been a lot of press speculation on the loss incurred by the club due to sales. This unfortunately is true. We took the hard decision to incur these losses for the good of the club. To commit the club to a significant cost and liability over a five year contract for one player is not prudent, especially as he was not to contribute to our success now, but was for the future. Indeed, in the case of Andreas Cornelius, who cost the club in total just under £10 million, we realise a large loss in excess of £8.5 million, inclusive of transfer fees, salaries, business and compensation paid to player’s agents and other miscellaneous expenses.

The key shareholders have made their dissatisfaction of such a huge loss known to the board of directors, which they believe is due to imprudent and careless management undertaken by the previous football management.

The new structure, headed by the Chairman with our new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has given comfort to our shareholders that the process is prudent, transparent and professional. Our new centre forward Kenwyne Jones scored on his debut to give us three valuable points. On Saturday we are in the fifth round of the FA Cup and wish all of the team much success and good fortune.

I am genuinely bored of explaining that our best players were bought under Mackay. Some dirt cheap.

He only had the clubs interests at heart

"The process was transparent, creating value for the club throughout all of the transactions"

This is obviously the key phrase, that lead to the fallout and sacking of Moody and then Malky. Whoever will be proved right or wrong on all this, it's the owner who obviously feels that previous transfer dealings have been done in a way that was not transparent and the implication is that he feels he was somewhat hoodwinked, maybe even lied to. Personally, I could not see Malky doing anything that could be underhand, I merely think that Malky and Moody, acted with carte blanche in the transfer market and for what ever their reasons, didn't fully explain their actions. It made the pill even harder to swallow for Tan, when Cornellius turned out, so quickly to be a dud buy.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT '

Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:33 pm

Finally the truth is out, Malkys inability to find a quality bargain has cost our club millions, he should never be given that type of money by any club again, and he won't IMO as other clubs will look at our situation and think Malky is clueless when buying players with large amounts of money. He also overspent on Medel, canas for Swansea is just as good if not better and he was free.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT '

Lim knows it was just as much his fault as it was Moody's or Malky's and he's still trying to cover his arse. Malky has gone now and it should just left alone particularly in the public eye. To continue to pubically slag him off is just unprofessional and discourteous to everything Malky did for the club. It just shows the type of people we have in charge at the club.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT '

Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:35 pm

Why weren't these procedures in place from the start?

Malky just took advantage of a lack of oversight and signed who he wanted.

As for the signings being ready now to help our relegation battle - that is clearly not the case due to fitness, ability or experience

Also pretending the club is being open when it is anything but.

All the informaton given out is information already widely reported in the press.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT '

Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:44 pm

Why are the club putting this statement out at this time?

Surely whilst in the mix of a relegation battle what is the point in going over old ground regarding previous transfer dealings?

At this time what the club needs is a period of stability and for everyone to focus and concentrate in supporting OGS and the team to get out of our current position. We can do without having digs at previous members of staff. All it is doing is bringing back into the public eye and the press will gave a field day.

Is it a case of deflecting any blame from the club to increase season ticket sales? There has to be a reason why the club have issued this statement at this crucial time.

Problem is, he is right - Malky bought shit

I wouldn't send Malky shopping for me, it would be £70 for a bag of sugar

Fair criticism.
Cornelius was an embarrassment and showed a total failure by the previous management and scout to properly vet a player.

You don't spend 8.5m on a 20 yr old striker in your first PL season

True. It was a risk, just like Ole buying a load of foreigners and expecting them to keep us up.

Like playing an 18 year old that has less strength than a fly in a relegation battle.

You were probably creaming over the signing at first, it didn't work out, so now you criticise the high risk/big bust signing.

Genuinely wasn't, average league where he only performed(when scouted) when the title was more or less wrapped up. Teams aren't made in January though, we should have either sacked Malky before so Ole could identify his targets sooner/implemented his philosophy quicker. We will go down because of reckless summer spending

So I guess your one of those people who is happy with the club wasting tens of millions, would you of preferred Ole to buy a Chris samba for 12 mil and put him in 100k a wk, but still go down like QPR? I know anyone who cares about the club will be happy with Oles spending, spending 6 mil on all those players, plus selling the deadwood bringing money back in was great business. Who would you of bought in the jan window then genius? :laughing6:

My sentiments exactly, it's either Ole goes out and spends recklessly in a window known for charging over the odds for players or try and buy players that can keep you up but also ready for a promotion push next season. We done okay transfer business in Jan
