Leeds United target Cardiff City's Mark Hudson - but will have to wait for Bluebirds to conduct their business first

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he wants two defenders but whether he can bring them in quickly remains to be seen

Leeds United are keen to sign Cardiff City club captain Mark Hudson, but they won’t get their man just yet.

The Bluebirds are working to add two central defenders to their squad , but have only five days before their opening Championship match at Blackburn Rovers.

Those targets are their priority, and it is going to be a busy week at Cardiff with Gary Medel heading to Inter Milan for £10m and Jordon Mutch probably on his way to Queens Park Rangers for £6m, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to add two defenders and a midfield player to his squad.

Leeds have enquired about Hudson, but he could yet be needed by Solskjaer for Friday’s match at Blackburn if other deals cannot be completed in time.

Ben Turner is rated doubtful with an ankle injury and Juan Cala is suspended, which would almost certainly mean Hudson and Matt Connolly linking up at the heart of defence at Blackburn.

Solskjaer won’t know for another couple of days how quickly his transfer dealings are developing and whether he will have new players in by Friday.

Solskjaer knows who he wants to bring in, but will leave all the negotiatons to Chairman Mehmet Dalman and focus on preparing his team for the opening Championship fixture.

Think he just rested him knowing he might need him Friday, I don't understand why make him captain then sell him? strange.

Big mistake in my eyes.Leader, organiser, bit slow yes but still good enough for a back up at championship level!!

Hudson has been a great servant to the club and was brilliant during the season we went up. However, I believe after being injured and playing so little football last season I would be happy to let him go if we do sign 2 new central defenders this week. He has never been the most mobile and needed a run of games to get near his best but I feel at 32 and such few appearances in the last 16 months he will never get back to the standards he has shown. He will possibly be 5th choice as well behind 2 new guys, turner and cala so he deserves an opportunity after being such a stalwart to play first team football elsewhere In the twilight of his career. We will miss his leadership qualities and his commitment to the club if he goes!

His best days are behind him and despite being a decent gentleman, he is not a captain who can lift the team when down

he didnt make him captain hes always been captain it would look a bit bad if he stripped him from the captaincy then just sold him

Ole has been shrewd here. He knew selling Hudson could well be an issue so acted as if he had no intention of changing things. Meanwhile he made Marsh (who had already spoken to him about defo staying) Captain in Hudson's absence. If he goes now, business as usual.

Marshall is more than capable of leading by example and it is in defence we need motivating IMO. The new guys if signed will be aware of his prowess between the sticks and will do as they are told.

Hudson has been a great Bluebird but now may be the time to bid him a fond farewell and thanks, even though he may end up playing against us for Leeds.

Ok, I'll rephrase. 'why keep him as captain' and as for looking bad well after watching Turner , Connelly and Cala we really need his experience at the back.

Hudson has always been Club captain that never changed Caulker was Team captain as Hudson couldn't get in the team. Swansea had the same thing williams was team captain while monk stayed club captain untill he became manager

It would be a huge loss off the field. My favourite personality at the club and definitely a man who brings people together.

Also I cannot remember a player turning his career around at Cardiff City as successfully as he did. As one stage he was on the receiving end of the worst abuse I can remember a CCFC receiving which is especially hard for a CB. Showing amazing character he turned it round and was our best outfield player in our promotion year to the Premiership.

If he were to leave as a player, I would love to see him back one day at the club in a coaching capacity.

It's no biggy,Huds has been great but Ole is keen to put his own stamp on the squad and why not?

I have lost count of how many threads I have read on Ole needs to sort the defence out, gradually he is getting rid of the ones he believes are not up to the job and bringing in players that are.

This is great news, we will get better defenders in than the ones we lose :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :ole:

I remember the stick DJ got over signing Hudson and the crazy wages he was on, he since signed a new deal so no doubt he is on a good wage. While I think he is a good CB his age and especially his injuries are a concern. If we are looking to bring in another 2 CB I'd hope Hudson and Connolly are moved on.

What people don't realise is that we have to spend this season preparing our players for the prem. Ole now has time and freedom to develop his tactics. Someone like hudson will never be able to adapt to the prem, he's too old and slow. The prem is a different and more intense style than the championship and we have to start preparing for it now if we want to establish ourselves there. Steve Bruce and Hull knew this, the tactics he built his team on were always going to be suited to the prem, Malky's......weren't. Optimally hudson should go to make way for someone that we can integrate into our new style.

I remember when DJ signed him for £1m everyone thought it was mad money, I think we miss him when he's not playing but give him a bit of stick for being slow when he is. Scored the most outragous goal ive seen at the new stadium tho! Good luck skipper but really wouldn't mind if he dtays :old:
