MOTM v Wigan Athletic (h)

Tue Aug 19, 2014 8:58 pm

On my way back to my hotel, via Asda!

May be early season but I think that's a huge win tonight. Great atmosphere too.

But who was your man of the match?

Easily Fabio

Has to be one of the two fullbacks for me. Torn really as they both deserve it.

I'll go for Fabio purely because his work rate enabled us to move Whitts out from the middle which was essential for this game. Not that JB didn't work his nads off too.

Gunnar returning to form too.

Fabio without a doubt best we have seen him play and hope he improves further, also thought Morrsion played well along with Brayford and Pilkington in the 2nd half Marshall was his usual self ,Maynard ran and ran without no great threat but did well to clinch the winner, as for the rest I cant say I was over impressed.

Fabio for me but thought Jones, Morrison, Brayford were all excellent.

Anyone disappointed with the performance need to remember that this is a massive win against one of our main rivals.

All without a fit Noone, Dikachoi, Macheda and Guerra. Defensively we look good just need to be more fluent going forward but I'm much more optimistic now than I was at the start of the season :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Both fullbacks were excellent. But Fabio was outstanding.

Fabio was outstanding. Full of energy, good defensively and a threat going forward. Real quality display.
Brayford, Connolly and Jones also played well without the City really causing many problems to Wigan until we had an out and out wide player coming on in Pilkington. Thought Daehli was dreadful

Daehli is a bit weak and will find it hard in the championship but he has the class and will get there, Fabio was just about my man of the match as Brayford and Jones did well.

I was really pleased to see Gunnerson have a good game again he went for everything, and Tom Adeymi was good again he looks a very good signing

Had to be Marshall - particularly after his second half performance.

Fabio, really seemed the only one who wanted to go forward, the flick he done over someone's head in the first half I think it was, Brazilian he is.

I hate to say 'I told you so' but I DID say Mats looked like he needed a rest before this match, there are way too many narrow sighted wishy thinkers around here.

Fabio....he made it look so simple at times last night. :ayatollah:

Fabio MOM. But Brayford was excellent too. In fact the four defenders performed very well. Despite the goal, Maynard doesn't look the answer up front. But despitevgood performances from Adeyemi and Gunnarrsson, the midfield is still very poor. Disappointed to see Daehli taken off; without him we lack a playmaker.

Fabio by a good distance followed by Brayford. Our defence is looking good but ironically our midfield is failing to function and consequently our strikers have suffered in two of our first three league games. We need a lot more movement from our midfielders. The man in possession seems to have very few options for a pass and the opposition are finding it easy to see where our next pass is going and pick it off or put huge pressure straight away on the player receiving the ball. Pass and move boys...pass and move. :bluescarf:
