" A FOOTBALLING GREAT SHOWN HOW IT IS DONE "

So the rookies done what a footballing great couldn't.

Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon played players in the correct positions today unlike Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who would regularly bemuse fans and probably his own players by playing the players out of position.

I was delighted to see the line up and how positive it was, seeing Daehli play in the pocket is something I have wanted to see all season, thought Daehli was excellent throughout the game and Sheffield Wednesday didn't know how to contain him without putting two players on him when he was on the ball.

Craig Noone and Anthony Pilkington out wide is certainly what we want to see, I can see us getting stronger if that team today becomes a settled eleven.

Manga challenged every ball but did miss out on quite a few aerial challenges by mistiming his jumps and Sean Morrison, who did well to get his goal, looked suspect on a few occasions, he is too slow to recover a lost ball and needs to get his positioning and reading of the game right to overcome the shortfall of pace.

Kenwynne Jones did brilliant for Pilkington's goal and is showing what an asset he is to the team.

The first fifteen minutes of the game was mainly Sheffield Wednesday in control but like at Derby last week, you could see that the City players knew their task and were sticking to it.

After that initial period City's players started to get involved offensively and with Daehli coming to the forefront of all that was good about City it was no surprise that the opening goal came from a free kick that was awarded after Wednesday decided the only way to slow Matts down was to foul him.

When Wednesday equalised early in the second half, I was worried that we would lose the game, thinking the players were not confident enough to believe they could overcome conceding after recent defeats.

But the players showed character and timely substitutions by Young and Gabbs proved otherwise, the introduction of Ravel Morrison just after the hour pushed City further forward up the pitch and the debutants touches and skills were a lift for fans and players alike, I look forward to seeing more of Ravel Morrison, when he is match fit and the rest of our squad are, then there is hope for our club to move up this division.

It would be pleasing to see City go with the same formation on Tuesday at Brighton, the 4-5-1 has worked at home, albeit against an ordinary Sheffield Wednesday and I am sure it is a shape that can work away from home.

Well done to Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon today, they got the win we desperately needed and overall to take four points from six is remarkable coming off the back of two straight home defeats before Ole was replaced.

Ole never once had Noone to choose on this season.

With regards to Morrison I can't see where he was caught out of position. He certainly was better defensively than Manga in my eyes. Apart from the own goal I can't see where he put a foot wrong. I also thought he showed good pace a few times, unless their striker was just slower?

It is not just Noone though is it?

Ole played strikers as wingers and centre halves at full back on their wrong foot.

Morrison's does not have pace, that's not a problem if he reads the game a bit better, for their equaliser, we were out of shape, and not just Morrison, but his slow reaction to the ball coming into the box meant he met it at the right time to score the own goal, had he been sharper then I believe he had a better chance to defend the cross better.

So he lacks pace due to being unfortunate in scoring the own goal? What a ludicrous statement!!!!

Read it again and understand what I am saying.

Morrison lacks pace! ( that is not a criticism it is fact )

Because of his lack of pace, he needs to be sharper at the reading the game better and positioning himself.

Had he been sharper (not faster!) then he would have been in the box earlier to meet the cross and deal with it, not running onto the ball facing his goal!

Yes I read your comment, but I said in my first comment I don't think he lacks pace at all compared to our other centre halves. Manga, yes. I personally thought Morrison was superb today. And I will be happy to see him and Manga start the next game over any other pairing.

John is not a LB, so played Connolly there as he's played full-back before. We were short on wingers and now we have them in abundance

I think they are the pairing for the season and it is the choice, there is work to be done by both players though.

Yes I agree with you there, they need to build up an understanding together. Once that is sorted our defence should be very hard to break down. Still worried about the Middle of the midfield defensively though.

Spot on formation which i personally have wanted all season.
After that im begining to want scott/danny to stay as manager. Correct formation, correct players in their positions and the passion is there for everyone to see !
A point in brighton and 3 in blackpool and why would we want anyone else ? Swans are doing it with monk. So should we

My one gripe about daehli is he can sometimes miss an early ball and can hang on to it for too long. He is a tricky player and one with a great future but he needs to get his head up a little sooner on times. Hyper critical I know but true.

I think that is a good point but fab player in general :bluescarf:

A good line up and much improved performance.

I thought the central defenders coped well with their huge centre forward. And Marshall saved a certain goal by standing up to the one on one, early in the game - that led to Fabios off the line clearance. Had we gone one down, it would have been a different game.

It's a shame they didn't pick a similar team to play Bournemouth....an extra match to get comfortable with each other, and we would probably still be in the League Cup, with a home draw.

Never mind, that's gone .....let's hope for more of the same this week.

I agree though hard to critisize due to his youth & potential.
He runs down blind alleys all the time & needs to get his head up & release earlier at times.
It'll come though & love watching him play.

In what way do you think Manga needs to improve?

Give it up mate, it's gone past the point of embarrassing yourself. Common sense is all it takes. Ole was the worst manager city have had in the last ten yeas
