Blackpool 1-0 Cardiff City

A shocking performance from City tonight, Blackpool wanted it more and that hurts to say.

There are many bones to pick from that display and Russell Slade has his work cut out to turn Cardiff City into a real promotion candidate, on that viewing it looks unlikely.

The players were not at the races and Blackpool harried and pressed us for every ball.

City lined up with the 4-5-1 that has proved useful in the last two games, Ravel Morrison got his first start replacing Matts Daehli, Joe Ralls was also recalled to the starting line up instead of Craig Noone.

City could have conceded the lead just inside 10 minutes when their right winger seized the chance to cross when Joe Ralls was sold a dummy and the cross was just inches ahead of Ishmael Miller to head home.

Less than two minutes later City had their first effort on goal when Sean Morrison headed just wide from a Whittingham free kick.

The first 15 minutes was quite an open game and Blackpool were creating some decent openings.

Manga looks like a real quality signing and has settled in really well to the back four.

Possession count was equal after the first quarter and City started to take control of the game, we needed to get Whittingham, Ravel and Pilkington on the ball, they are the creative players in the team and once we did we created our best passage of play.

Taking control of the game didn't last long and Blackpool were soon back causing us problems.

Fabio's last ditch tackle in the 32nd minute was timed perfectly to stop Delfonsou from putting Blackpool in to the lead. Some refs may have given a penalty but it would have been harsh.

Our midfield was nowhere near tight enough to the midfielders of Blackpool, whenever we had the ball their players were straight in our faces, in particular Perkins was breaking up a lot of our play but the same coukdnt be said of our players when Blackpool had the ball, too many times our defence were facing strikers finding space in our box and Manga's composure saved us on the line.

Cardiff City were riding their luck and it seemed that it was a matter of time before Blackpool's luck in front of goal changed and ours ran out.

At half time we had just one tame shot from outside the box by Kenwyne Jones on target, overall a poor first half display by City.

No changes at half time but the same pattern continued in the first ten minutes of the second half, our midfield was being pressed hard whenever we had the ball.

City should have taken the lead on 58 mins, good work by Ravel Morrison, who worked well to put Fabio in with a chance but the Brazilian shot with his left when his right would have been the better option.

First change of the game was Macheda replacing Kenwyne Jones on 60 mins.

City were enjoying their best spell in and around the Blackpool box, we had four corners in quick succession but couldn't trouble them with any of the crosses.

And from our last corner of the four, Blackpool broke away and scored, we backed off and didn't press the ball, it was coming and we were getting what we deserved.

After 68 mins, Young and Gabbs, threw their last dice to try and turn the game on its head, a double substitution with Ralls and Ravel Morrison leaving the field and Noone and Le Fondre coming on. The formation changed to a more conventional 4-4-2.

The next ten minutes and possession was 70-30 in our favour but still we couldn't create anything of note.

City were very poor tonight and really didn't do enough to get anything out of the game, Le Fondre had a chance on the 90th minute but maybe his lack of game time resulted in his shot blazing over the bar from 10 yards out, this came just a minute after Blackpool should have extended their lead but a fine stop from Marshall kept the scoreline to 1-0.

City are going to have to improve massively after tonight's showing, it was a shocking performance from the team and unfortunately it really looked like there was more desire from the Blackpool players than City's.

Carl. Yet again our midfield showed how weak it really is..... No ball winner, no leader. We cannot continue with whitts and gunnarsson they just do not offer enough.

Tamping is an understatement tonight.....

Gutting, sorry for everyone who travelled. In desperate need of a Manager, hopefully Russell is the man for the job.

Promotion is a pipe dream and there is no way of sugar coating it we are a disorganised rabble with absolutely no desire (Fabio apart) in our squad. Nothing but a bunch of bigtime Charlies.

OGS has fucked this squad up bigtime and I pity Russell Slade for what he has to try and sort out.

No manager can sort out our problem... Tan is the issue at this club as he uses us a big kids toy.

no money or manager can sort out the mess Tan has/is creating

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Albert Einstein

Well by that definition we have insane people selecting the team. Let's hope Slade has different ideas :laughing6: :laughing6:

Most of them were utter pwp, Morrison's backing off from their striker when he scored, Gunnerson and Whittingham are just not good enough, Pilkington does very little...and Macheda, my God whoever decided he was good enough to be a professional footballer at any level has a lot to answer for...how we're crying out for players like the blonde guy, Perkins ? in midfield for Blackpool, he was awesome, and should have had motm by a mile.

Dreadful. Feel for those who wasted their hard earned cash on that shower of shite. It all stems from the top. Tan has ripped the heart out of our club with his rebrand. Until he goes. I'm not going to another home game. I was there under Durban, hibbitt and Ashurst etc. I won't go to ccs until tan goes. Had a guts full.

VT promised to support OGS in this last transfer window and he did with £12m so, in my opinion, OGS takes a massive amount of responsibility for this squad. He claimed we have "Leaders" all over the pitch :o well someone will have to stick badges on those alledged leaders to remind them what's expected.

I hope as fans we can cut Russell Sladea bit of slack because non of this is his fault but VT really should have gone and got Pulis, like Obi Wan Kenobi he really was our only hope.

Hes a dictator who gets involved in the football side of things. He has probably had an effect on the manager and in turn this has effected the players, which has affected the fans, which has effected the club.

Tan sell up ffs

Well if rumours are right and Slade is advicing then, then in my opinion god hell us. That tonight was painful for every city fan. 11 games in and still wating to see a performance to talk about, and we are told that we have the strongest squad in the championship. I only hope he has a magic wand or its going to be one long painful season

You could tell by the players' body language that they were disinterested and not up fot it,i suppose that they felt that they only had to turn up to collect the 3 points against a relegation outfit and sadly that's what Blackpool are. Ole has done unsurmountable damage by signing players who lack appetite and have the wrong character. Promotion winning teams have lots of players in their squad who will roll up their sleeves and fight,we don't.I hope Russel Slade is given time to get rid of the non tryers and eventually bring in players who will wear the shirt with pride! The difference in the two squads was that Blackpool were a team with inferior quality, we had 11 players on the pitch that didn't know what to do and were not interested. Slade, i hope will kick some of the rubbish out quickly as this was totally appalling. Annis,if you're reading this,i warned you earlier in the week this might happen, i wish i had been wrong!

4-5-1 against Blackpool says it all, no ambition.. Crossing the ball with 1 striker in there

Re: SHOCKING PERFORMANCE THAT DESERVED NOTHING

Fri Oct 03, 2014 9:53 pm

A few months ago we were in the PL. Millions of pounds on new signings since creating a squad full of players with PL and top championship club experience. Yet a team thrown together a few weeks ago outplays us to claim their first win of the season. I doubt many other teams will go there and lose this season.

Has a manager, OGS, ever created so little from such a lot in such a short space of time?

And to top it all we get a manager who's never managed at this level before.

Disaster awaits.

When was the last time we harried and pressed a team?

Just hang around allowing the opposition as much time on the ball as they want until they reach the edge of our penalty area and then hope they make a mistake and lose it.

We never force the issue - always waiting for something to happen.

We can't press or harrie a team like the Mackay days because this lot aren't fit enough mate eg Dikacgoi and it's October, someone needs to start kicking arses, i hope Slade is the man but he's got a hell of a job in front him and is being paid a pittance of what Solskjaer was on.

We've not replaced Mutch

Kiss had a bit of steel to him, he would probably be a better option in midfield than the current light weights....and he would have cost nothing.

Actually the loanees would make a decent team....

Correct on the first point, but well wide of the mark on the second, I'm afraid! ;)

Ole had to go and he has (sadly) left a squad that appear somewhat disinterested at the minute!

Russell Slade may or may not be the man to 'sort it' but he will be an improvement on what came before IMHO
