Wales are top of their qualifying group for Euro 2016 - but police have issued a warning to fans about the consequences of pitch invasions
POLICE have warned Welsh football fans that they risk hefty penalties and a ban from attending matches if they invade the pitch during the upcoming European qualifiers.
Jonathan Williams, aged 25, from Aberdare, has today been slapped with a four year football banning order after trying to get on to the pitch during Wales’ win over Andorra in September. Several people invaded the pitch shortly after Gareth Bale scored the winning goal in the game, and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
With Wales topping their qualifying group following their win over Cyprus last night, police say they hope today's banning order will act as a stark reminder to supporters.
South Wales Police PC Christian Evans said: “I hope the banning order issued today sends out a clear message that similar behaviour will not be tolerated at matches.
“Whenever there is evidence of football-related disorder or violence we will always pursue those responsible to ensure appropriate action is taken. The overwhelming majority of Welsh fans are well-behaved and passionate about their team and their behaviour both at home and away games is usually excellent.
“The expectation is for the atmosphere at these games to be family-friendly and we work closely with the Football Association of Wales to keep the troublemakers away."

Wouldn't it be up to the court in the said country to convict people and issue the ban ?

There is a juristiction issue here. If the offence took place in Andorra then it should be up to the Andorran legal system to try those involved and any punishment, if found guilty, should be dished out by an Andorran Judge
I feel very uncomfortable with bans being handed out when the Andorran authorities have not even tried those involved. There is a Human Rights issue here.

The ridiculous situation here is that if you live in Wales but are involved in a car accident in Glasgow you cannot pursue your claim through the English and Welsh legal system. Yet if you find your way onto an Andorran football pitch it is somehow acceptable for the English and Welsh system to deal with it.
I know the differences between Civil and Criminal matters but Andorra is simply outside of their Juristiction.
Let me give another example. Many years ago some british photographers were arrested, in Greece, for photographing planes. That is illegal in Greece and they were rightly dealt with by the Greek authorities. Our authorities didnt seek to punish them as well so why should it be any difference in football.
