' TODAY'S PERFORMANCE '

" It would have to be up there with the best since I’ve been here,”

“I was very pleased with the performance at Wolves a few weeks ago where I thought we were excellent that day. Today, sometimes when you work so hard, as we have done in recent games, and created chances and not got the rewards. But we got them today, our movement was good, we got into some good positions and managed to finish. We were ruthless today and it was really good to see.

' MORE TO COME '

“It is a boost and I have told the players I still feel there is plenty of improvement to come from us. I say that because we have new partnerships out there. Stuart O’Keefe and Joe Ralls have not played together that often in midfield, Anthony Pilkington has been up front and we have added new faces to the equation in Tom Lawrence and Lex Immers.

“It is a new team, a young team in certain areas and we are maturing. It was a real mature performance. We committed forward when we had to and we were resilient when we had to be. We were tactically disciplined against a side who are king of the counter-attack. If you leave yourself open they can hurt you, the balance was key today and we had that.”

' ANTHONY PILKINGTON '

Slade reserved special praise for Pilkington who has moved inside from the wing to play up-front and had an excellent game against Brighton. Pilkington’s strike made it three goals in last five games for him since being moved to attack and Slade said he was delighted with his player.

“People say he might be makeshift. I do not think he is,” said Slade.

“If anything he is very unfortunate not to score more goals. His man of the match award was well deserved, he is a real attacking fulcrum for us and brings others into play. We were more of a threat today in our shape. We did not have Noone or Ameobi so we had to tweak and adapt.”

' MIDDLESBROUGH ON TUESDAY '

Cardiff now head for another very stern test as they travel to Middlesbrough on Tuesday. But Slade said, after this result, he and his side would approach the encounter full of confidence.

The Bluebirds’ boss added: “We have momentum behind us and we look forward to it. We look forward to this game and if we are going to get there these are the challenges and obstacles you have to overcome for sure and we did it in good style. The maturity was so pleasing with a team that is very new.”

Agreed, he holds the ball up well, has a great first touch, wins his fair share of headers and runs the channels well. Hopefully he can keep performing as he has done
