' IF CITY MAKE THE PLAY OFFS? '

Mon Mar 14, 2016 7:28 am

If Cardiff City do make the play offs this season, will it go down as one of the biggest successes they have had, or maybe the least expected success they have achieved ?

For me I think it is close if not better than other successes, especially in the last couple of decades.

Winning the title was amazing but we spent money getting a squad together to mount a challenge.

Under DJ we were always there or thereabouts but again it was expected that City could at least make the play offs.

The only season that I can compare would be Malky's first where we reached the League Cup Final and made the play offs.

Slade will have been very successful in my opinion if he makes the play offs and I would consider it as unexpected as a fan.

As a Cardiff supporter, knowing everything that goes on at the club and taking Slades former lack of any success and only lower league experience, I would say it's a huge unexpected success. However, I would think that, those outside our bubble, knowing that we have had Premiership football, had a big experienced squad, will probably believe it's where we should be, so no surprise.

It would be a huge achievement, no doubt.

Not taking anything away from Slade or the team, but I think the 2011-12 season just about edges it. However, if we were to go on and win the play-offs, it would be better than that.

I would add that, whether Slade takes us to the top six or not, this has been a good season for the team and manager.

If we make the play-offs then without a doubt it would be a great achievement although Leytonstoneblue makes an excellent point that outside of South Wales other football fans might view it differently.

For me the most unexpected part of this season will be the acceptance of Russell Slade and to a lesser extent Vincent Tan as manger/owner respectively.

Both have performed brilliantly this season and have given their 'customers' good value for money.

The football has been entertaining and debt has been written down. Also there seems a willingness to interact with supporters. No disrespect to the Trust or the Supporters Club but Choo knew his potatoes when he went straight to Annis for supporters opinions and the turn around over the past few months has been astonishing. :bluebird:

Good post, Tony

Some will disagree, but Annis has the best interests of Cardiff City FC at heart and (some on here hate the fact) he does have a certain ability to both positively and negatively influence a lot of our supporters for or against the club with his opinions!

What you don't see him do is fail to support the team on match day and that is how it should be! :ayatollah:

Ken Choo himself is another member of Tan's team we all questioned and ridiculed when he first arrived, but (like Tan) he has grown into a more savvy operator and Cardiff City FC and its supporters now appear to be seeing the start of a complete mood change on both sides!

Can only be a good thing IMHO and Ken Choo's interactions with supporters (whether it be through Annis or others) should be welcomed if, as appears, they are beginning to listen and implement positively! :ayatollah:

Good post back

Sven you have hit the nail on the head with regard to Annis. The Trust and Supporters' club are dam good people looking out for the interests of their members but if you want to get something done then go to the organ grinder not the monkey.

Ken Choo didn't seek out Keith Morgan or Vince Alm he went straight to Annis because for good or bad he is a man who can get things done. When he (Annis) told Russell Slade the fans were behind him you can bet RS walked into the dressing room 2 foot taller and basically repeated Annis' pep talk as his team talk, result 2-0 Sevenside derby win.

We can all disagree on just about any subject from time to time but when we unite we are a different force. I would love it if we went up this season :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Some great posts on this thread and I agree with them all. As Leytonstone blue points out perception outside of our bubble is probably different but I think most city fans would agree this season has been against the odds.

Comparisons to Malky's first season are fair although I think Slade has had a tougher job in terms of winning the fans over.

Also credit to Annis and other senior figures on here for driving that acceptance - it is absolutely true that their influence on the wider fanbase is a force to be reckoned with.

What a great idea! Of course some of us already have bald heads and baseball caps so shouldn't prove too hard to do

Cant say I agree, promotion to the premiership this season certainly would be though, a huge shock.

Making the play/offs would be seen as a very good season but I don't think they comparing to making the league cup and FA Cup finals.

Umtimately if we make the play/offs and don't gain promotion it will go down as a failure just like DJ's seasons.

Its also been a good season for the club in managing itself and building bridges with the fans. If we can now start seeing some local talent come through via the academy, then you couldnt ask for much more.
