' CITY TURNED DOWN BY ENGLAND'S NEW STAR '

Not sure if many will remember this but Cardiff City had a bid accepted of £1m for Jamie Vardy when he was at Fleetwood in the conference.

Malky Mackay saw the potential in Vardy and had his bid accepted but the player chose Leicester City over the bluebirds and the rest is history as they say.

Some may not remember this for a number of reasons, Vardy weren't a big name then obviously and at the exact time of our bid was smack in the middle of the rebrand story breaking, TG had released a statement at the time saying the Malaysians had scrapped plans for the re-branding during some fraught days.

It makes you wonder what success Vardy would have been at Cardiff and how his success may have helped City, no doubt Vardy doesn't regret his decision to choose Leicester.

This is a Wales Online article from MAY 17TH 2012 :

Leicester City have agreed a deal worth £1million for Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy.

CARDIFF CITY have missed out on signing Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy despite having a £1 million bid accepted, WalesOnline understands.

Vardy is now set to join the Bluebirds' Championship rivals Leicester City after agreeing terms with the Foxes.

Malky Mackay is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of next season despite the club still being surrounded by financial uncertainty following the decision to scrap re-branding plans that could have seen Cardiff's Malaysian investors pump £100 million into the club.

A board meeting earlier this week brought no definitive decision on the club's future path, with the prospect of seeking new investors still being mooted.

Mackay is closing in on Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis as his first signing of the summer, as he bids to build a team capable of challenging for Premier League promotion once again after play-off defeat to West Ham this season.

Vardy, who scored 31 goals in 36 appearances for the Conference champions this season, has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks.

But he has now made his decision, arriving at the Walkers Stadium for a medical on Thursday. The initial £1 million fee could rise to £1.7 million with add-ons.

The 25-year-old only joined Fleetwood last season from Halifax Town. Before that he played over 100 games for Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Is a case of what could have been.

Having said that, he may feel at home at Leicester and it may not have worked out with us. Pearson and Ranieri have both managed him very well, and that probably made a huge difference.

He made the right decision, he didn't score many in his first season with them and needed a few years to settle, we wouldn't have given him the time.

When he was with Fleetwood he used to drink in the the local with other Fwood players in Poulton. My lad Brad got talking to him about the move , he said City offered him more money but was going to Leicester as it was closer to his home , Sheffield i think he said.
Looks like he chose right for himself and has never looked back. Nice guy our Brad said and always willing to chat .
