Cardiff City say they have recalled young full-back Declan John as a ‘precaution’ ahead of the Championship run-in.

Cardiff City confirm that Declan John has returned to the Club following his loan-spell at Chesterfield.

The 20-year-old defender made six appearances for the Spireites during his temporary spell and was highly praised.

Cardiff City have recalled defender Declan John from his loan spell with Chesterfield.

John joined the Spireites in mid-February on an initial month-long deal which was then extended until the end of the season.

However, shortly after prolonging his stay at the Proact Stadium the left-back sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with the Wales U21 squad and has not played since for Danny Wilson's side.

Really wish he'd been used more. Not the finished article but would be a lot further down the line than he is now if he had regular first team action.

It was but Declan John returned from Wales Under 21s injured.

Mad to think he was first choice in the PL under Ole. Looks like a good player when I've seen him, will be great in a couple more years.

If Russ is still here next season Dec will be gone. Russ likes a defend first full back. Its all about styles of play preference.

Flat back 4 all in a line with thier hands up is our Russ's perfect defence. 1 hard man in the middle, 1 playmaker, a big and litle un up front with two tricky wingers.

We'll never do anything with that set up from three decades ago, but thats our Russ.

Mad to think he was first choice in the PL under Ole. Looks like a good player when I've seen him, will be great in a couple more years.

I would love Declan to get a run in the team

I don't see a place for him, certainly don't think he is better than what we have.

Should have been sent out at the start of the season to get a proper amount of games instead of rotting in the development squad.

I'd prefer Declan starting at left back than Scott Malone. Malone doesn't close his man down, the number of crosses into our box from the right side is ridiculous. Don't understand why Slade doesn't rectify this.

I'd prefer Declan starting at left back than Scott Malone. Malone doesn't close his man down, the number of crosses into our box from the right side is ridiculous. Don't understand why Slade doesn't rectify this.

I agree Malone doesn't like getting stuck in and shits out of tackles. Not bad going forward but definitely a weak link in the defence.

Malone is a safe, normal left back. I definitely think Dec should be given a shot ahead of him! Young and Welsh, he would be an ideal back-up for Fàbio. Malone made so many mistakes against Derby! John needs to be given a shot!

Which says more about Ole's ability as a manager rather than Declan's ability as a footballer. He wasn't good enough then and hasn't been seen tp be good enough since. He's young and my still make it, and will probably replace Fabio in the squad when he leaves this summer.
