THE GOOD & BAD NEWS FOR CARDIFF'S ARON GUNNARSSON

Cardiff City and Iceland Captain Aron Gunnarsson who shone in the Euros with his all action, never say die attitude and his long throws which caught many Countries defences out, will now have a short break before he returns to his club Cardiff City for pre-season training. Gunnarsson's country, Iceland went out of the Euros 5-2 last night to France.

Gunnarsson will surely have won a first team start for Cardiff City next season.

Previous manager Russell Slade was not a fan of Gunnarsson and there for Gunnarsson struggled to play for City in the Championship last season.
Paul Trollope is giving every player a fresh chance to prove themselves and surely Gunnarsson has just done that.

The bad news is that Gunnarsson has been carrying a slight injury to his back and will need to have a bit of a rest, plus treatment from the Cardiff City backroom staff. Hopefully Gunnarsson's injury will be all cleared up over the next four weeks.

Cardiff City will need a leader like Aron Gunnarsson in next years tough Championship.

Hearts star Don Cowie buoyed as pal Aron Gunnarsson gets a little respect at Euro 2016

By Alan Temple -

Monday 4th July 2016

As Hearts prepare to face minnows FC Infonet this week, Don Cowie certainly won’t be underestimating the danger of an underdog – after watching his pal Aron Gunnarsson stun an entire continent.

They may have exited the competition against a rampant France last night, however Iceland’s exploits will go down as one of the defining stories of Euro 2016, with the island of 330,000 inhabitants reaching the knock-out stages in their first ever major tournament and claiming the scalp of England along the way.

As well as memorable moments on the pitch, their celebrations became equally iconic, with the ‘volcano clap’ – led by skipper Gunnarsson in epic fashion – taking the tournament by storm.

Aron Gunnarsson: 'Iceland are just getting started'

By Giuseppe Labellarte, Reporter

Monday 4th July 2016

Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson has expressed his disappointment at his side going out of Euro 2016, but is adamant that there is plenty more to come from them.

The Nordic nation exceeded expectations by qualifying from Group F in second place before humbling England in the last 16 to book a date with hosts France.

Although Les Bleus ran out 5-2 winners at the Stade de France on Sunday, Gunnarsson believes that his side are "just starting".

He told BBC Sport after the game in Paris: "We are disappointed but incredibly proud. It's been an amazing experience.

"A lot of hard work has gone into this and the fans have been fantastic. They are still singing, it's unbelievable. The French have all left. They are still here. It just shows what we put into this.

"The first half was terrible, we managed to play better after the break. We decided we could not leave like that. We will learn from this. We are just starting."

Iceland, who were 131st in the world rankings just four years ago, are now expected to break into the top 30 following their exploits at the Euros.
