' WORK IN PROGRESS '

After seeing Cardiff City earn a draw away to Birmingham City today my overriding is that our formation is very much a work in progress.

I didn't expect City to come here today and wipe the floor with Birmingham saying that, though I did expect to see a little more attacking threat than what I witnessed.

It was clearly evident today that City need more of a presence up front.

The back line looked decent enough.

City hit the bar through Lex Immers in the second half and a couple of half chances.

Declan John offered a threat in the left wing back position constantly.

City fans were in fine voice throughout the game, and taking the mick out the English with chants about Russia and Iceland.

I am pleased to come away with a draw away from home and a clean sheet.

Hopefully we will see our new system take more shape next Sunday against QPR at home after our cup match with Bristol Rovers.

Sounded like City dominated the first half and Kuszczak made a string of unbelievable saves to keep them in the game, but Birmingham edged the second half?

What we are trying to do won't take overnight to do but we are moving in the right direction. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

That's about right.

I was a bit surprised to see how similar the way we played today was to the way we played last season.

Having not seen us in pre-season I was expecting to see a very different style of playing but that wasn't really the case.

I suppose with virtually all the same players and the same coaching team that shouldn't be a surprise but I couldn't really see that we were playing in a vastly different way.

At times it felt just like the last two seasons under Slade.

Carl is right - it is a work in progress which won't come together overnight but today wasn't quite as different as I thought and hoped it would be.
