History

Blackburn Rovers Football Club is an English professional association football club based in the town of Blackburn, Lancashire. The team competes in the Football League Championship from the 2012–13 season. They were relegated from the Premier League, the top tier of English football, at the end of the 2011–12 season. The club are currently managed by Gary Bowyer after previous manager Michael Appleton was dismissed on 19 March 2013. Appleton was the third manager to have lost his job in 6 months after Steve Kean and Henning Berg.

The club was established in 1875, becoming a founding member of The Football League in 1888. It is one of only three clubs to have been both a founder member of the Football League and the Premier League (the others being Aston Villa and Everton). In 1890 Rovers moved to its permanent home at Ewood Park. Prior to the formation of the Premier League in 1992, most of the club's successes were before 1930, when it had gained league and FA Cup trophies on several occasions. Relegation in 1965–66 was followed by 26 successive seasons of football outside the top flight.

In 1992, Blackburn gained promotion to the new Premier League a year after being taken over by local steel baron Jack Walker, who installed Kenny Dalglish as manager. In 1995, Blackburn became Premier League champions, having spent millions of pounds on players like Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton. However, the title-winning team was quickly split up and, in the 1998–99 season, the club was relegated. It was promoted back to the Premier League two years later, in the 2000–01 season, just after Walker's death. During this time it has qualified for the UEFA Cup four times: once as League Cup winners, twice as the Premier League's sixth-placed team and once via the Intertoto Cup. The 2011–12 season marked the club's 72nd, non-consecutive, year in the top flight. Blackburn are currently one of only five clubs to have won the Premier League, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City.

The club's motto is "Arte et Labore", which the club translates as "By Skill and Hard Work" in Latin.

I got another bad feeling about this game, & the longer we go on without scoring, the more likely our opponents are of nicking a goal. 0-1 Blackburn scoring in the last ten minutes.

The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of the game against Blackburn Rovers this Wednesday.

Cardiff City host Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday August 17 for the game at the Cardiff City Stadium and the match carries a 7.45pm kick off.

Fourth Official: Simon Hooper

Match Day referee Davies has officiated three games in 2016/17 with a return of ten yellow cards and zero red cards.

He took charge of 36 matches last season and in those games, across all competitions and football divisions, he handed out a total of 127 yellow cards and five red cards.

He was most card happy in the match between Charlton and Leeds on December 12 with a total of eight yellow cards being shown. Wimbledon and Notts County on September saw seven yellows and he also showed seven in the November tie between MK Dons and Charlton.

' Paul Trollope is confident '

By Phil Smith

Tuesday 16th August 2016

Cardiff City face Blackburn Rovers at home tomorrow night, who are rooted at the bottom of the Championship having scored one goal and conceeded seven goals.

Paul Trollope is confident that the Cardiff City fans can see and will support what his players are trying to do, and the tentative applause that greeted their first-half performance on Sunday afternoon suggested that was right.

Full-time may have been a different matter but then, so was the Bluebirds display in that galling 45 minutes.

The head coach is desperate to give the fans something to get behind with a front-foot performance against Blackburn Rovers. It's a challenge he will not be taking lightly given his team's struggles so far but in truth it is a perfect opportunity to truly get his tenure moving in the right direction.

Owen Coyle's team were 4-0 down within an hour on the opening day against Norwich, though in fairness they are an excellent attacking side at this level. A 3-0 hammering at the hands of Wigan last weekend was far more damning, however.

Trollope knows the importance of getting a win on the board, especially in such a relentless league as this one.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of reasons why a slower start than expected doesn't necessarily mean a long slog for the whole season. Just look at last year's champions...

Re: ' LATEST NEWS: CARDIFF CITY v BLACKBURN ' UPDATED DAILY

Owen Coyle has demanded a reaction from his players as they prepare to take on Cardiff City on Wednesday evening.

Following the weekend loss at Wigan Athletic, Rovers are back on their travels when they face the Bluebirds at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The Rovers boss knows that the team have to cut out the individual errors that have proved so costly in the opening two games of the season if they are to have any chance of picking up the required points to move up the table.

"The key is to give ourselves an opportunity in the game," Coyle told Rovers PlayerHD. "What we are doing is we are shooting ourselves in the foot and playing catch-up.

"So we have to give ourselves a chance to go and get a platform to build on and see where that takes you, because I'm convinced that with the players we have that can score goals, if we get that foothold in the game we can go and win.

"But it seems that every individual error we are making has been heavily punished and that can happen at the level that we play. So we have to eradicate those individual errors and give ourselves a platform to go and win some games.

"So the focus is to make sure that we are concentrating to give ourself a chance."

Fans who haven't yet got their tickets for the Wednesday night match against Cardiff City have until close of business today to obtain them from Ewood Park.

Some 200 tickets have been sold to Rovers fans for the midweek match. Advanced prices are £22 Adults, £18 Seniors, £13 16-21yrs and £10 for Juniors aged 15 and under.

After that supporters can buy on the night at the Cardiff City Stadium, from the away ticket office at Gate 12.

However supporters should note that there is a £2 price increase for sales on the day, meaning matchday prices are £24 Adults, £20 Seniors, £15 16-21yrs and £12 for Juniors aged 15 and under.

Supporters using the club's official away travel should note that Blues Bar will be open from 10am serving food and drinks.

Cardiff's latest signing Emyr Huws could make his first start for the club in the home game against Blackburn.

Huws made his first appearance off the bench in Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to QPR after signing from Wigan for an undisclosed fee last week.

Boss Paul Trollope has no major new injury concerns but may make changes as he chases his first win in charge of the Bluebirds.

Sky Bet Championship,Tomorrow, 19:45pm

Striker Kenneth Zohore plus midfield pair Craig Noone and Aron Gunnarsson are among those pushing for starting places, but midfielder Stuart O'Keefe (arm) is not expected to feature.

Adam Henley is the latest Blackburn player to suffer an injury ahead of winless Rovers' trip to South Wales.

The full-back pulled his hamstring in the 3-0 loss to Wigan at the weekend, which was Blackburn's second defeat from two league games, and will not be back until September.

It is the second such issue boss Owen Coyle has had to face following the injury sustained by Elliott Bennett and he also remains without Northern Ireland international Corry Evans (groin).

Coyle may have centre-half Elliott Ward back, though, as he has done some training in his return from an ankle problem.
