The savings made on outgoings is far bigger.
It is a lot of money but City needed a striker.
What if we paid £1m transfer fee ( which would not have been unthinkable ) and paid him £20k a week.
It amounts to roughly the same.

Tan has backed the move by agreeing to pay high wages to get a goal scorer.
The wages, including the signing on fee, in the absence of a transfer fee, I am told is £32k per week.
Also if Lambert achieves 20 appearences either this season or next then it will trigger a 3rd year with City on a reduced wage in that third year if Lambert decides to go with an extra year.
I know it has been suggested elsewhere that the package was believed to be £2m but I am told it is slightly over £3m for the two years, with a 3rd year on offer if Lambert makes the 20 or more appearances in one of the two season deal.
With over £4m off the wage bill each season with the release of Le Fondre, Macheda and Dikgacoi plus the sales of Marshall, Fabio and Moore then City released a lot of wages which included 4 players who weren't near the first team so it has freed up funds for the club to push the boat out a little.
I am pleased with the signing and hope that Lambert can score the goals during games when chances arise to take the pressure off the rest of the team.
Lambert is a goal scorer, can we supply enough chances for him to succeed his probably the pertinent question.

32k seems alot but Lambert has been a proven goalscorer over the years so hopefully he will do well for us.
Another important thing for me is i think he will be very good for helping the other inexperienced players in the squad so overall it could be worth the wages

Carl/Wez, Lads, I see your points but for me it is lot of money on what I see as a massive gamble.
I see this season as a write off so I would rather the Club had got through with what we have untill January and used the time to find the right fit rather than rushed this through.
If it turns out he's lost it we will be paying a 36 year old £1.5 million for nothing in season 2 and it will be back to the old need to reduce the wagebill before we can replace etc etc.
Should have offered him a 1 year rolling contract IMO with his wages at say 20k with incruments based on goals.
Its a cracking deal, for him.

The important thing is that Tan appears to have backed his coaching team in their acquisition of a proven striker without the need for a big transfer fee and it doesn't take a genius to work out that Lambert won't have come cheap, given the option of sitting on his backside for
It will use some of the doom and gloom merchants on here but the simple fact is there will have not been a better 'value for money' transfer of a proven striker in this transfer window!
Apologies in advance if that's too positive for some on here!![]()
