' TAN SPLASHING THE CASH '

Vincent Tan has splashed the cash to get Rickie Lambert to sign for Cardiff City.

With time running out City were desperately trying to get a deal done to give Paul Trollope the striker he wanted.

Tan has backed the move by agreeing to pay high wages to get a goal scorer.

The wages, including the signing on fee, in the absence of a transfer fee, I am told is £32k per week.

Also if Lambert achieves 20 appearences either this season or next then it will trigger a 3rd year with City on a reduced wage in that third year if Lambert decides to go with an extra year.

I know it has been suggested elsewhere that the package was believed to be £2m but I am told it is slightly over £3m for the two years, with a 3rd year on offer if Lambert makes the 20 or more appearances in one of the two season deal.

With over £4m off the wage bill each season with the release of Le Fondre, Macheda and Dikgacoi plus the sales of Marshall, Fabio and Moore then City released a lot of wages which included 4 players who weren't near the first team so it has freed up funds for the club to push the boat out a little.

I am pleased with the signing and hope that Lambert can score the goals during games when chances arise to take the pressure off the rest of the team.

Lambert is a goal scorer, can we supply enough chances for him to succeed his probably the pertinent question.

32k I seriously hope that aint true, absolutely mental, no wonder he was keen to sign, when will we learn, 32k on a striker who I dont care what anyone says is a complete gamble given his age and recent form.

Beyond belief.

remember there is no transfer fee ,goal scorers at this level cost a lot and working out at 32k a week may be bargain

The savings made on outgoings is far bigger.

It is a lot of money but City needed a striker.

What if we paid £1m transfer fee ( which would not have been unthinkable ) and paid him £20k a week.

It amounts to roughly the same.

Well he is cheaper than Kenwynne and he wasn't exactly prolific. I think Lambert will score goals for us so long as he gets decent service!

We need a goal scorer, worth every penny if he gets 15 plus goals, I could see us going down this season, Now we have some hope :ayatollah:

32k seems alot but Lambert has been a proven goalscorer over the years so hopefully he will do well for us.
Another important thing for me is i think he will be very good for helping the other inexperienced players in the squad so overall it could be worth the wages

Carl/Wez, Lads, I see your points but for me it is lot of money on what I see as a massive gamble.

I see this season as a write off so I would rather the Club had got through with what we have untill January and used the time to find the right fit rather than rushed this through.

If it turns out he's lost it we will be paying a 36 year old £1.5 million for nothing in season 2 and it will be back to the old need to reduce the wagebill before we can replace etc etc.

Should have offered him a 1 year rolling contract IMO with his wages at say 20k with incruments based on goals.

Its a cracking deal, for him.

Yes but if you compare what we paid for cornelious (spl) and his wages Lamberts a bargain

I am genuinely surprised by this if it's true as I thought Tan was cashing everything in. I hope it works out and he scores the goals

Re: TAN SPLASHING THE CASH

Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:41 pm

Just proves Tan's happy to spend, as long as we keep inside the FFP.
I thought after OGS and Milky he would have kept a tight grip on his purse strings.
Trollope must be trusted, I'm quite happy with the business he's done.
Marshall going was the only downside.

My only hope now is Huws gets fit enough to change the middle of the park for us. The club should be thinking about contracts nearing their end offer traditional new 3/4 years but if that fails offer a years extension before Jan and look to sell next summer.

Doesn't surprise me. But I think it will be worth it, he is a great signing at this level. Experienced is the word I'd use as well.

I worked with a Wolves season ticket-holder and an Aston Villa season-ticket holder today - they were both really impressed with this signing.

Carl has just quoted what hes heard we dont really know if what hes been told is correct.. maybe it is 32k maybe its 16k who knows except lambert and the club

The positive for me is this is a player that Trollope knows and trusts, hence the fact that Tan is backing our manager is huge step forward.

I for one can't wait for Norwich :)

Doesn't really matter if Carl is on the money with his comments regarding Lambert's wages or not, really. He can only supply the information he is given and trusts to be correct

The important thing is that Tan appears to have backed his coaching team in their acquisition of a proven striker without the need for a big transfer fee and it doesn't take a genius to work out that Lambert won't have come cheap, given the option of sitting on his backside for

It will use some of the doom and gloom merchants on here but the simple fact is there will have not been a better 'value for money' transfer of a proven striker in this transfer window!

Apologies in advance if that's too positive for some on here! ;) :laughing6:

I really worry about his age. He looks in good shape though and I hope he does great.

I really liked him at Rochdale early in his career and he has done quite well ever since.

Surely for that kind of money due diligence must have been done, can't be caught like that again. :o

People love to throw out the old doom and gloom merchant/negative line on here when someone has an opinion on a matter that doesn't match theirs, its quite pathetic realy.

The whole point of the board is for opinon and debate, if people feel that 32K a week for an ageing striker whos recent goal scoring form is on the slide then thats their opinion and should be accepted without the need for cheap shots.

If you cant accept that people don't always agree you must realy struggle in life.

That is a lot of money if true! :o

The words "Robbie Fowler" come to mind. He was actually younger than Lambert when he signed for us and look at what a waste of money he turned out to be.

However, I don't think Lambert has had the injury problems that Fowler had before he signed for us so hopefully he can stay fit for the next few years.

Really hope he's ready to hit the ground running because we need him firing immediately and playing 90 minutes not spending the next month getting "match fit".

For that salary I'm expecting 40 goals a season!
