Cardiff City reveal ambitious plans for 'The Bluebirds Way' as they seek fresh Welsh-led identity

The Bluebirds hierarchy have ambitious plans in place to persuade fans in the Welsh capital and its surrounding valleys to have a fresh identity with their local club and follow the team on a more regular basis.

Vincent Tan,Dalman,Choo are all very worried about Cardiff City's poor attendances.

BY PAUL ABBANDONATO

Owner Vincent Tan wants Welsh-based plans off the field of play to back up Bluebirds having their own playing style mirrored on Wales' Euro aces

Vincent Tan wants a new Welsh-dominated way forward for the club

Paul Trollope helped implement The Wales Way at international level, next it's The Cardiff Way

Cardiff City are bringing in what they dub a DNA and identity for the club which they believe will hold the Bluebirds in good stead for decades to come.

Based on Wales' successful Euro 2016 methods and unofficially titled 'The Cardiff Way', manager Paul Trollope has been asked to implement a style of play that becomes synonymous with the Bluebirds.

Trollope has already got the plan up and running on the field of play, mirroring the 3-5-2 formation utilised so successfully on the world stage by Gareth Bale and his Wales team-mates.

But the proposal runs much deeper than just what happens with Trollope's players.

The Bluebirds hierarchy have ambitious plans in place to persuade fans in the Welsh capital and its surrounding valleys to have a fresh identity with their local club and follow the team on a more regular basis.

Greater Welsh corporate involvement is also on the cards.

The ethos of the Cardiff Way is designed to put an end to the type of boom-bust scenarios we have seen with the Bluebirds in recent times.

Manager wise they have gone from one extreme to the other - from the defensive-minded Malky Mackay, to free spirit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and more recently the boring football served up under Russell Slade.

Each of those managers had a different style of play. Future bosses will be asked to model tactics on the Cardiff Way... which Trollope has started to implement.

Bluebirds chief executive Ken Choo explained: "The club needs an identity, more Welsh players for the Welsh people to get behind. Vincent Tan asked Paul Trollope to begin that process and we have begun doing it.

"Paul knows it is about results, but he also says that we as Board members and the fans need to give him time to build this pattern of play.

"So, for example, our under-21s have replicated the exact same system and have won their last four matches playing that way.

"The under-18s also play with the same tactics and they're doing well too. We're trying it lower down further. So when future players from those sides make the grade into the senior team, they will be comfortable and familiar with the style adopted."

That is exactly the system that has been brought in with Wales, Chris Coleman's No2 Osian Roberts insisting every age-grade team mirrors the style utilised by Bale and Co at senior level.

Roberts tells the younger players it is The Welsh Way. Choo calls the Bluebirds plan The Cardiff Way.

He continued: "Vincent has outlined his vision to us and we are just starting to roll it out. This is a multi-departmental strategy, it's not just about the playing side of things.

"So, for example, commercially we are looking to bring more Welsh companies into the fold and you will see greater participation from them in the next six to 12 months.

"We have software in place and have brought experts on board to look at how we can target greater support, particularly from the Valleys which has been a stronghold for Cardiff City.

"Underpinning it is the playing side and the need for more Welsh involvement.

"Vincent planned this before Wales' success in the Euros, identified it as the direction in which we should be going. Remember, we appointed a Welshman in Paul Trollope to the top job before anything happened out in France and encouraged him to be part of the Wales coaching set-up out there.

"We have signed a number of Welsh players. James Rowberry, the youngest holder of a UEFA pro-licence badge, is part of Paul's backroom team. We have Martyn Margetson as goalkeeping coach. He's gone to England, but he was part of the Wales set-up. Ryland Morgans, Performance Director with Wales, has joined us too.

"It's a way of bringing this Cardiff identity. Liverpool play a certain way, so will Cardiff.

"Their fans support the team win or lose, provided they play the Liverpool way.

"You have to stick with something and build the whole strategy around that. Paul Trollope doesn't want to lose games, but he knows he has to build something more fundamental for the football club as a whole."

Some good stuff there and also impressed with Dalmans interview yesterday....after years of off field nonsense, fpp problems, in fighting, poor managers, overspending etc etc have we finally turned the corner???? Does the future look a little bit brighter???

I applaud the sentiment but We should have already had a distinctive playing identity replicated down through the age grades anyway

We need a strong , well funded academy system for this to carry any weight but didn't the club recently announce more cutbacks in the academy?

We had a style of football at the club until tan come in and ripped everything up changed manager changed team colours had fans fighting amongst each other and now on the back of his actions he's now talking about bringing unity and bringing back the crowds, well maybe had they thought about all this a few yrs back we would still have bigger crowds, our crowds now are worse than they was under Dave Jones so it's not just cos we got relegated that we have lost so many fans. Hopefully we can try and get some them fans back but I doubt we'll ever get them all back

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY REVEAL AMBITIOUS NEW PLANS '

Sat Sep 10, 2016 11:12 am

Funny thing is, I go on about crowds and of course about our own crowds and the usual suspects continually have ago at me for posting them, but as usual Our club is noticing how bad they are and for me a club without support or a crowd may as well not exist.

Personally in the above statement I don't see much in it and for me,not much substance at all? ?

Working with the schools, local and valleys, players visiting them and then personally giving them tickets for our matches to the schools etc always works :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thats one of many many ideas.

You made your bed Vincent you lie in it  no one wants to take time out of they're well earned weekend to watch piss poor mediocre shit match day experience when they can go out on the piss or take they're family's out etc it's as simple as that  you can't even have banter with the away fans without getting told off by the stewards it's like being in school again.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY REVEAL AMBITIOUS NEW PLANS '

It was less than 10 years ago that the fans voted for their favourite club crest, which included the Bluebird, the welsh dragon and daffodil, in my opinion returning to that would be a good start. Central to that would be returning the away strip to yellow.

That may not be the "Fresh" identity the board are looking for but it would be our "Traditional" identity on the field of play.

Going to put my tin hat on now.

Cardiff had an identity, Tan pissed all over it then blamed the fans. This just sounds like desperation to halt plummeting attendance / season ticket figures.

If this means playing five at the back at all levels, then it's crap. We need more flexibility and system which sometimes vary. I still think we should be looking at 4-2-3-1 for starters.

I'm a bit concerned that this 'Cardiff Way' includes strikers missing sitters if the start to the season is anything to go by ;)

Ummm dudu .try winning football matches. Respecting the bluebird and colour blue and have an open dialogue with the fans.you never know you might get some respect in return

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY REVEAL AMBITIOUS NEW PLANS '

Not being a boom or bust club and financial stability is vital and is the most importment thing stated in that piece. The rest of it is just words. The 'Wales Way' requires players like Bale and Ramsey to work. Fans only flocked back to the Wales games when we were on the up and I've sat in the stadium when there was only 10k or less many times prior to that. It will be the same for Cardiff too but many have simply found other things to do as a result of the rebrand and I can't see them returning anytime soon. What pains me is that prior to that, we had an identity that money cannot buy that the board are now realising the significance of that to a football fan. But at least we have some positive words and intent, they now need to turn that into outcomes.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY REVEAL AMBITIOUS NEW PLANS '

Sat Sep 10, 2016 1:47 pm

club has sold all the best players -we will soon in a few more games and we will be able to say for sure what the season ahead is going to be

at present not the best of football being played -

- fans have stayed away for a few season due to all the antics and goings on -our fans are treated better away by other clubs than our own

-- nothing has changed and if anything gone further backwards

Its a shame really -

most people on this board seem to be daily experts about our club

- TAN as been the main culprit for letting the club be run so badly without real footballing professionals taking the club forward -

what they know about running a football club is probably as little as I know about what fish are below his luxury yacht -

Tan game gave hope for us in the beginning - it was a toy he liked then changed rebrand and ruined everything until his mum told him off

- managers and staff have had nothing but hassle

goal keepers have stopped scoring goals and have now decided to leave our club

I see no ambition what so ever - players over 30 year - other tidy players will go January -

crowds will be low all season - Club not attractive enough to sell unless at a major loss

I hope I'm wrong Cardiff city been my club all my life but like others I find it hard to get excited about home or away games

Sorry to be so negative but my opinion is there all full of shit end off - on that note I wish all the players the very best today clean sheet and a few goals and safe journey to all the faithful fans xxx

Absolutely agree. I would like us back in blue, white and yellow with our 'proper' badge back.
Is that too much to ask?

Uninspiring, unambitious lies is all you get from this club.

Dalman should stop talking football, the bloke loves to think he knows all about "philosophy" - He basically loves the sound of his own posh voice.

He's just as out of touch with the fans as any other chairman has been and sounds more and more like a crook every time he speaks.

Bit of a random point to pick out, but as a welshman I'll never understand why margetson left Wales for England. No time for that whatsoever.

What identity did we have? No playing identity what so ever! They're talking about the way we're playing not as a club. Fans like you will always put this club down and anything to do with it. We're actually trying to go the right way in the way the club is run and the way we're playing football. Created a lot more chances than Norwich today and played attractive football. If anyone thinks playing this way and the new tactics are going to be successful straight away then you're deluded. We won't go up this year we'll be mid table at best but next year we'll be right around the top if we stick with this management team. The only way is up from here.

This is positive we needed something like this we can't just sack managers and bring in ones that have different styles of play we need to a style of play all the way through the academy to the first team like Swansea , Bournemouth and Southampton and when we bring through some youth they are familiar with the style the first team is playing what we are doing at the moment with 352 will take time and we will reap the rewards when it will click but chopping and changing will just make us go around in circles and will never progress. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY REVEAL AMBITIOUS NEW PLANS '

There is a massive amount of people just gagging to come back and support a winning team... everyone is a supporter but it is easy to find something else to do on match day, because you know you will not miss anything by not turning up.

It's not so much the Welsh way, as everyone points out a lot of the Welsh team were not born in Wales, but it is the unity and togetherness that the group of players produce which has made Wales into the team it is. The spine is excellent, the rest are united.

Cardiff City can do that too....but you need the spark and very good players to do that. A couple of much better than average players will kick the club into action, and the rest will follow.

Only good results will bring the crowds back. SPEND SOME MONEY.

So now he wants to create "the Bluebirds way" and fresh Welsh identity after rebranding us and trying to extinguish everything relating to our club a couple of seasons ago. You couldn't make it up.

A good start would be removing that ridiculous Malaysian red worm off our badge! :bluebird:

I have been crying out for a philosophy at ccfc for years we've had so many different style of managers a and different playing styles it's cost us in a lot of ways .
To now have a philosophy in place is at last a good thing .unless we try it and give it time who knows but given time it will be successful I'm sure .it's a much better direction to go in and a must in my opinion. Weather we have the right philosophy in place is a different matter but I'm prepared to give it a chance .
