HITC Sport understands Cardiff have agreed a deal for the Rotherham defender.
Thursday 5th January 2017
Cardiff City have agreed a deal for Rotherham United's Greg Halford, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is a big admirer of Halford, having worked with the 32-year-old during his time in charge of The Millers last season.
Warnock is looking to bolster his squad during this month's transfer window and he sees Halford's experience and versatility as being a valuable addition to his plans.
Halford played a key role in helping Warnock guide Rotherham to safety in the Championship last season against all the odds, with the utility player making 26 appearances for the Millers last term.
Halford, who has made 14 appearances so far this season, is out of contract at the end of the season and Cardiff have moved to sign him for a nominal fee.
The well-travelled performer is expected to go straight into the Cardiff squad for this weekend's FA Cup with Fulham.
Halford's 15-year career started at Colchester and has taken him to Reading, Sunderland, Charlton, Sheffield United, Wolves, Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Birmingham City.

Replacement for Manga?

This does not give me confidence at all. This guy looks to skinny and weak to be a CB

He's a right back

Bit long in the tooth?

He's versatile it will be interesting to see how many games he played and what position under warnock last yr

Does anyone remember a Qpr fans take on Warnock on this forum when he 1st signed for us, very in depth and honest encouraging take about Warnock building a spine, adding experience and having your team play attractive footy? I feel this is exactly what he is aiming for. Not a star but someone to come in with experience to do a job required especially what we require in our current situation.

He's 6 ft 4 warnock worked with him before knows what he does. Our aim is survival this year and this guy has experience at survival

Just checked on his wiki and says his natural positions are RB and CB but can also play in midfield apparently

Didn't he get sent off playing for Forest against us at the CCS, when we beat them to virtually guarantee promotion to the Premier League?

You are correct. A very decent defender. Knows his limits & wont go past them. Does his job and that's that. No nonsense.

His head is to small for his body, what is Warnock thinking?
Fri Jan 06, 2017 6:55 am
This guy has a giant long throw too!
Fri Jan 06, 2017 6:59 am
A very decent signing. if I'm correct was captain at forest so would be nice to have a much needed leader and some experience in the squad

Very useful signing warnock said he wanted a utility player and add experience and this boy ticks both boxes hecplayed 26 times last season under warnock and in his career has played every position on the pitch in his career . Usually plays across the back 4 rb cb or can do a job lb has played centre mid. Be a good signing another experienced player. Will more than likely just be a back up player who could come on in last 10 to see games out

I have seen him play us a few times - He's a big athletic unit
Always been impressed by him - at 32 i'm guessing a short term deal ?

Why check wiki.. He has been around long enough for you to know about him.. A good steady player.. Good addition to the squad for this season.

Decent signing, very much a Peltier type player.
Nothing spectacular but experienced and won't let you down.
This would suggest a defender will be leaving

Doesn't exactly get your pulse racing does it - I'm going to sit on the fence and reserve judgement - Bamba cane out of the blocks after all
Fri Jan 06, 2017 8:14 am
That would be a good signing IMO.
Fri Jan 06, 2017 8:17 am
Warnock wants more leaders and Halford knows this league inside out, great addition.

If Slade had signed this journeyman there would be a much different response on here I can tell you

Well I've never heard about him but I'll take your word that he's a good steady player and I hope he adds something new to the team

Warnock does like to work with players he knows but then so do most managers.
If he's done a good job before then chances are he'll do another good job with us.
Warnock does like filling his teams with tall players. Helps when challenging to win all those long throws from all over the pitch that we seem to do!
Fri Jan 06, 2017 10:45 am
Hell of a throw on this guy, this is the market we are in now, in warnock we trust.

Confirmed on CCFC

Wonder if he'll employ him in front of his defence, after playing Bamba there for Villa game??
