Partizan Belgrade have been banned from the Champions League and Europa League for the next three seasons because of unpaid debts, says Uefa.

European football's governing body said the 2015 Serbian SuperLiga champions had broken rules on unpaid debts three times in the past five years.

Uefa added that the club owed 2.5m euros (£2.17m) in unpaid debts as of September 2016.

Most of the club's debts were owed to social and tax authorities in Serbia.

Uefa's Club Financial Control Body said the ban is appropriate, given a "remarkably similar set of circumstances" to Partizan's last debt case in 2013, when the club were given a suspended one-year ban from European competitions.

Partizan were eliminated from this season's Europa League in the second qualifying round by Polish side Zaglebie.

What you are not realising here it is all political in Serbian football. The current government there are staunch Red Star supporters and all funding and sponsorship goes to them. There is also pressure from the government to any company that wants to sponsor Partizan.
So they have had to sell there best players and there attendances has plummeted as a result. Bribery is rife within Serbian football and very dubious decisions week after week go in Red Stars favour. Yes Partizan are in the shit financially but it's all down to government corruption.

Partizan Belgrade's European ban over unpaid debts was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday after the Serbian club provided evidence that they had cleared overdue payments to various parties.
UEFA said in January that Partizan had outstanding debts with other clubs, employees, and local social security and tax authorities, which is in breach of European club competition licensing regulations.
European soccer's governing body opted to exclude the club from participating in the next UEFA club competition it would otherwise qualify over the next three seasons, a decision Partizan appealed against with the sports tribunal organisation.
Partizan gave evidence to clarify their position with the tax authorities and that they had made a "timely payment" of their debt with the other parties involved.
"Taking into account the fact that FK Partizan has satisfied this condition, the club will be eligible to compete in future UEFA club competitions," CAS said in a statement.
