Cardiff City Striker Rickie Lambert, with still one year left on his contract signed last August by previous manager Paul Trollope and Cardiff City's Committee, is running out of time as he continues to recover from injury which looks a future problem for Lambert. Lambert has made just seven starts in Neil Warnock's 26-game tenure.

Neil Warnock is under extreme pressure to reduce Cardiff City's wage bill this Summer if he is to be given money to bring new players in. Will Warnock want Lambert here next season? ?

At this current moment Cardiff City are still paying Lamberts wages in full and Warnock hopes to have Lambert back to play some part of this season.

Lambert is currently seeing a back specialist and has been having treatment daily,if Lambert was forced to retire only then would his insurance take over.
Lambert has been doing some training with the first team squad.

Rickie Lambert has a two year contract with Cardiff City, costing Cardiff City £2 million plus, its believed WBA paid part of his last contract off to Lambert.

Lambert said “As you get older injuries take their toll. Not just fresh injuries, but ones you’ve carried through your career too and carried on playing with.”

“I’m 35 years old, and I’m still bearing the scars from my own career. My right foot, neck, hip. The war wounds haven’t gone away more than a decade on.”

‘When you are injured it frustrates you. The older you are, the more the recovery time seems to be. Then you get another niggle and you’re almost back to square one. It can be terribly irritating.”

In 2015 Rickie Lambert cost WBA £3 million and made 20 league appearances, though 15 came from the bench, and he only found the back of the net once.

I still feel he has a role to play at the club next year and really hope we can get him fit.

Quote (Rickie Lambert): “I’m 35 years old, and I’m still bearing the scars from my own career. My right foot, neck, hip. The war wounds haven’t gone away more than a decade on.”

I read this and my initial thought was to ask why Lambert took on such a contract when he apparently 'knew' he was carrying an injury and would spend time on the sideline during the season?

Then I thought, why wouldn't he? He's still a player, he needs to work and I'm sure Cardiff City FC wouldn't have offered him a contract if they didn't want him here (which they certainly did under Paul Trollope)

I'm sure it's frustrating for Rickie Lambert and I would love hm to come back into the fold and prove a lot of people wrong but I am increasingly thinking there was a distinct lack of "due diligence" carried out before his arrival and the thought of another £m+ season for a player who doesn't contribute (for whatever reason) starts to wrankle as I see how much 'value' Neil Warnock could bring in with that kind of money to hand

Regardless of the financial position (that's an entirely different subject) Rickie Lambert is a case in point as to how the club was being managed pre-Warnock days, i.e poorly and without real consideration of the bigger picture

Thankfully, things appear to be changing and we finally have a manager in Neil Warnock who knows not only what it takes but how to do it and who to employ to get it done!

Onward and forward City! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Lambert has become costly and for me we can't afford anymore costly passengers.

We have lost a lot of money on him and something has to be done.

Yes, I'm sorry about that. I needed to get rid of it quickly, as it was costing me money but (as in the case of Lambert) you asked to buy it and it was 'sold as seen' ;) :laughing6:

When we signed him and people on here were getting themselves all worked up as he was going to fire us to the PL, I said he would not get into double figures with goals scored, and would spend a lot of time out injured. Next season would be even worse. He will be older, slower, and even more injury prone. His goal scoring record in recent years has been very poor, and even at this level he won't be much of a goal machine at this stage in his career. If he stays, it means we have to carry on wasting money on wages that could be used to bring in someone who could be of real benefit to us. Bringing him here was a poor decision and a very bad piece of business as far as I am concerned.

I must admit when he signed for us, I felt a bit of an upbeat and thought he could do a job for us. But alas after a few games he had a few nice touches, but was too slow( I think Annis felt the same way about him).
Against Aston Villa in the away game, he was not too bad in the first half and scored a goal. But since then he has gone down hill, not sure if he can bring anything to the team next season, if he his still here!

I can understand why some on here got excited as we were signing a "name". His record in recent years was nothing to shout about, and what we needed was a decent young striker with something to prove rather than someone who had already done it all and was just seeing out the end of his playing days. These sort of players tend to have a decent touch, show glimpses of class during a match, but are generally too slow and injury prone to justify the wages that are paid based on past glories.

We wont be the first or last club to sign someone like him, sometimes they pay off other times they don't.

When he had a run of games I thought he was quite useful. Bit of a panic buy from Trollope but I can see why he did it at the time.

There is nothing to be done. This could be his last pay day as a player and he's still got a lot of his life in front of him. He's going make all the money he can and I don't blame him for that one bit. He hasn't given up and thrown in the towel. When he's got on the pitch he's tried hard, and he is still trying to get himself fit. It may be a bad investment, but even if he chips in with a few goals next season, those goals might be vital. Let's support him, not moan about him.

If we get him fit he will score goals at Championship level. He's not going anywhere, so lets get the best out of him if at all possible

Nearly a season at trying to get him fit, what a waste over a £mill and he still might not be ok.
Yes there is plenty to Moan at, as he is still not fit properly and no goals.
I use to read that you did not like wasting money.
Personally we should get him fit and try and offload him, please our club has to stop wasting money.
It might not bother you, but it bothers me.

We will need to get the very best out of him if he can get himself fit, but just 7 goals since he left Southampton in 2014 suggests fitness and scoring has been a problem for him for quite a while now.

At the moment no one will come in to buy him.

So what do we do?

Keep him and let him see out his contract or pay off his remaining contract. Either or we are not going to save that much money.
