Rob Page has been named as the new boss of Wales' Under-21s, the FAW have confirmed.

The 42-year-old – who won 41 caps for Wales - will take charge of the Under-21 squad as well as the national Under-17 and Under-19 teams.

His first competitive games in charge will come in September when the Under-21s begin their UEFA Euro qualifying campaign.

During an 18-year playing career, Page made more than 500 senior appearances across spells with several clubs, most notably with Watford where he captained the Hornets to the Premier League.

After hanging up his boots, the former Wales defender managed both Port Vale and Northampton Town, before he was sacked by the Cobblers in January.

His most recent coaching job was at Nottingham Forest but he now signs a four-year contract in his new role.

And the former Cardiff City defender, who also appeared for Sheffield United and Coventry City during his playing career, will now move into the next chapter of his coaching career.

His appointment comes after the resignation of predecessor Geraint Williams in December.
