SWANS COULD BE HIT HARD BY BREXIT

The figures that reveal Swansea City could suffer more than most from Brexit
By David Dubas-Fisher-Wo

Swans reliance on EU players is among highest in Premier League

The United Kingdom's impending departure from the European Union could potentially impact Swansea more than the majority of their Premier League rivals.

Over 60 per cent of the Welsh club's goals this season, and almost half of the appearances, have been made by players either from the EU or with an EU second nationality.

The government will trigger Article 50 on Wednesday and formally begin the process of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union after Prime Minister Theresa May signed the letter confirming the UK's exit.

With EU nationals’ rights to continue to live and work in the UK yet to be agreed, Wales Online have taken a look to see which clubs could be most affected by a 'hard Brexit', and Swansea come out near the top of the list.

EU nationals have scored a total of 22 Premier League goals for Swansea so far this season, whose top-flight status for next season is far from secure ahead of Sunday's clash with Middlesbrough.

That works out as 61% of all the league goals scored by the club’s players this season.

Only Chelsea (76%), Middlesbrough (74%), Manchester United (71%) and Manchester City (62%) have seen a larger share of their goals scored by players either from the EU or with dual EU citizenship.

EU nationals have made 156 league appearances for Swansea this season, while players with dual EU citizenship, such as Federico Fernandez, have made 18.

Chelsea are the side who could be most affected by a 'hard Brexit'

That works out at 47% of all appearances made by the club’s players this season.

Chelsea have the most though. As many as 74% of league appearances made by the club’s players this season have been by players either from the EU or with dual EU citizenship such as David Luiz.

Chelsea are followed by Manchester City (59%), West Ham (57%), Arsenal (54%) and Middlesbrough (53%).

Players from the Republic of Ireland have not been counted as EU nationals for this analysis as their status in the UK is protected by laws older than the EU.

You didn't even make up the numbers when you were there for your one season of 'glory'! Did you enjoy it? Whenever we go down we've had year upon year just 'making up the numbers' while beating the top sides over and over. though i accept it doesn't compare to beating Real Madrid 40 odd years ago, despite the fact that they knocked you out in the 2nd leg! Crack on son and enjoy the ride!

Exactly most don't have a problem with immigration I.E. they ain't illegals and they contribute Tax. It's those that have zero skills and come here for the benefits. Those that work, why would Brexiteers have a problem with that ? Trouble is if you are against un controlled immigration then you are tarred with being against all immigration and you are branded racist. Well fook em

The double-barreled prententious named author of this is a 'sports data journalist' for the rag that is Trinity Mirror, aka the mothership of poor parochial papers all over the country. They've just edited it for each region they cover wit a prem team. Peanuts and monkeys springs to mind with anything they produce.
