Not sure what I was expecting, but I expected more than 250.

I'll be there none the less, but I thought, especially for some of the younger fans that this would be a new trip. (midweek last time when we took 500 odd) and not for 7/8 years previous to that.

Wigan Athletic will turn to goalkeeper Matt Gilks, after Stoke City loanee Jakob Haugaard tore a shoulder muscle and returned to his parent club.

Striker Omar Bogle and defender Reece Burke could figure despite their recent injury issues.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock says a sickness bug has affected his squad's preparations for the game and will rule out defender Declan John.

Striker Rickie Lambert could be back after a back injury.

The Latics will be relegated if they lose to Cardiff and Nottingham Forest beat Huddersfield. Graham Barrow's side could also be relegated if they draw, if Forest are win and Blackburn draw or win against Wolves.

Striker Nick Powell could continue in his "super-sub" role with five goals in his last three games, despite Wigan's perilous circumstances and his recent return from a hamstring injury.

Throwing down the gauntlet

Cardiff haven’t really got out of their own half for the past 10 minutes.

Another Wigan free kick will be taking long to pen them back. Connolly and Mark Harris combine to clear.

Re: ' TODAYS TEAM: WIGAN v CARDIFF CITY ' MATCH THREAD

Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:26 pm

One way traffic

Some hefty challenges flying in, especially from Wigan who haven’t allowed Cardiff a moment’s peace in possession.

It looked for a second like Noone was about to feed Pilkington on the break - but back come Wigan.

Re: ' TODAYS TEAM: WIGAN v CARDIFF CITY ' MATCH THREAD

Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:27 pm

The corner comes to nothing, then Pilkington is - frustratingly - flagged offside.

That was just about Cardiff’s only real attack of the first half.

Cardiff corner

Well won header by Pilkington to nod it in the path of Harris.

Cardiff now have their first corner of the game.

Re: ' TODAYS TEAM: WIGAN v CARDIFF CITY ' MATCH THREAD

Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:33 pm

Good effort

Shot from distance fro Reece Burke, dancing forward from right back.

Never looked like troubling the goal but Amos was concerned for a second. That was the best chance of the game so far.

Re: ' TODAYS TEAM: WIGAN v CARDIFF CITY ' MATCH THREAD

Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:34 pm

More pressure

Great diagonal from Obertan ushers Burke forward on the overlap again.

Corner to Wigan and the pressure just increasing a notch or two.

Jacobs works a cross into the middle but Morgan stabs over the top.

Cardiff pressure...

A rare chance for Cardiff to exert their own pressure now through a Joe Ralls corner.

But it disappears very quickly when Kadeem miscontrols. The winger has been very quiet so far.

Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:48 pm

Might aswell give Meite a try Pilkington is a waste of space.

Re: ' TODAYS TEAM: WIGAN v CARDIFF CITY ' MATCH THREAD

Sat Apr 22, 2017 2:56 pm

One way traffic, really, but Neil Warnock promised Wigan’s relegation rivals that Cardiff would put up a fight and that’s exactly what they’ve done.

Gunnarsson and Ralls have been vigilant in midfield, but really it’s the Latics lack of cutting edge that is keeping this game at 0-0. They’re yet to create a genuine clearcut chance despite all that possession in the final third.

Tunnicliffe and Jacobs are big threats from the wide positions.

We seemed to be in a habit of playing scared away from home again.I don't understand it.When was the last time Cardiff didn't get battered with possession playing away?
