Neil Warnock will target more attacking options in the summer after admitting Cardiff City were blunt against Wigan Athletic
Neil Warnock will concentrate most of his summer spending on attacking areas as he revealed after the Wigan Athletic draw that Cardiff City are short of forward options.
Neil Warnock is frustrated with his lack of attacking alternatives.
NEIL WARNOCK:
"A little bit more quality here or there and I think we could have got the win at Wigan," he said.
"I couldn't fault anybody in the back five, (Matt) Connolly and (Joe) Bennett were super and Ben (Amos) did well in goal.
"And the two centre halves, that's our strength really when you think we've got Sol (Bamba) coming back, we're strong there.
"The spine has got to be good but we need a more goals and options off the bench."
Warnock referenced the spending power of play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday who beat the Bluebirds 1-0 on Good Friday after bringing on £12million strike duo Fernando Forestieri and Jordan Rhodes with devastating effect.
The Cardiff boss didn't spend in January but wants to add similar star quality - at a cut price - in the summer.
"Sheffield Wednesday shouldn't have beat us but brought Forestieri and Rhodes off the bench. I didn't spend money in January, because I wanted to bite my tongue and not spend it stipudly.
"But if we get some quality and choice off the bench, that's our objective.
"It's still going to be a massive achievement next season if we can get up near the play-offs, but anything's possible in the Championship and I think we can give it a good go."
Warnock was also keen to remind Bluebirds fans how far he's brought the club since taking over in October.
Cardiff were in the bottom three when the Yorkshireman was appointed and will now target a top half finish with games against Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town.
He added: "When you see some of the clubs down there, one or two of the clubs that are in trouble, they are big clubs. But I'm afraid you don't get any help, you've got to do your business.
"It's incredible what they've done since I came, the lads have knuckled down and you can the spine we've got in the team is very very good.
"If we can add a few goals and a little bit of quality in certain areas, I think we can look forward to a good season next year."
