Hartlepool have sacked manager Dave Jones

as Welsh club Newport County escape bottom two for now :thumbright:

Monday 24th April

Dave Jones managed just 13pts from 51pts for Hartlepool United.

Dave Jones axed by Hartlepool United with League 2 club in relegation zone after horror run

Former Wolves and Southampton boss won just four games out of 18 since being appointed at Victoria Park in January

The former Wolves and Southampton boss won just four games out of 18 since being appointed at Victoria Park in January when he replaced Craig Hignett.

Jones has left the club along with assistant Kevin Cooper and coach Alex Armstrong, with Pools second bottom of League Two.

They slipped into the relegation zone at the weekend with a horrendous 2-0 defeat to Barnet – and lost to already-relegated Leyton Orient the week before.

Disgruntled fans let their feelings be known as they chanted in their numbers “Dave Jones, get out of our club.”

They are in real danger of being relegated to the National League with just two games to turn their season around.

Sky Sports presenter and club president Jeff Stelling quit in his post after the defeat, and delivered a scathing rant live on air calling for manager Dave Jones to go.

Fans were angrily chanting for him to be sacked after losing 2-0 to Barnet at the weekend

Stelling said: “We have lost at home, we’re in the relegation places, and it’s not personal Dave, but for God’s sake for the good of the club walk now.

“Go now. You’ve got 13 points from 51, this is not your level of football.

“(Finance director) Pam Duxbury, the chairman Gary Coxall, if he won’t walk, then sack him.

“If it means me resigning as president then I do so happily – do it now, do it today.”

And Stelling got his wish, with Jones leaving his post following a disastrous stint in charge, taking only 13 points from a possible 51.

Jones blasted Stelling for showing a lack of “respect” from his Sky Sports ivory towers as Hartlepool United’s president railed against the club’s manager.

Pools are in real danger of relegation to non-league for the first time in their history

He said before being axed: “It’s OK Jeff Stelling saying it in his comfy chair. He doesn’t know. He says you should play this person, that person, he doesn’t know the parameters of what goes on.

“So Jeff Stelling that’s fine for him to say; in fact it’s alack of respect for me. A lack of respect for me. Why should he say that? It’s a lack of respect.’’

Jones has been replaced for the final two games of the season internally, with defender Matthew Bates taking over alongside experienced skipper Billy Payner, and fitness coach Stuart Parnaby.

' DAVE JONES GO NOW YOUR A DISGRACE '

Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling launched an astonishing attack on former Cardiff City boss Dave Jones live on television after his beloved Hartlepool United side's 2-0 defeat at home to Barnet.

Saturday 22nd April 2017

UPDATED

Stelling just repeated and begged Dave Jones to leave NOW.

As Sky Sports results etc just finished, Stelling just said I beg you please go before the Cheltenham game, so my club can be saved.

Dave Jones 13pts from 51pts for Hartlepool

Taken Hartlepool to the bottom two of Division 2, on the verge of Non League

Live on Sky Sports Geoff Stelling has just begged you to walk and not ruin Hartlepool anymore.

Telling offered to give up his Presidency of Hartlepool if Dave Jones would leave now.

Funny most clubs fans thought the same.

Thats why I personally never liked your attitude and you never had passion or care for your clubs.
Your attitude was awful in my opinion, ignorant.

Did brilliantly in his first 2 seasons with us and FairPlay turned the club around.

However, the way we fell apart twice when we had promotion within our grasp was shocking.

His attitude towards the fans in his last 18 months at he club was completely out of order and his arrogance at times was unbelievable.

Him and his mate Risdale made a hell of a lot of money from our club and left us virtually bankrupt off and on the field.

Deserved to get sacked by us and by Hartlepool....but I see he is still blaming everyone apart from himself as usual

Former Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has been axed as Hartlepool manager amid an extraordinary war of words with Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling.

Hartlepool president Stelling called for Jones to resign live on air on Saturday evening before quitting his post with the club in protest over Jones' regime which has brought just 13 points from a possible 51 and left Hartlepool in the League Two relegation places.

And now the club appear to have taken action, with official confirmation they have parted company coming on Monday morning.

I have no sympathy for the man as he should have walked 10 games a go when it all started to go wrong, what I do not agree with is a section of Hartlepool fans who were calling him a paedo during the recent home game against Carisle Utd, that is a disgusting thing to call him when rumours were untrue.

Ex-Bluebirds Boss Leaves Newport County’s Relegation Rivals

Former Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has left Hartlepool United.

Jones, his assistant, former Bluebirds player Kevin Cooper and coach Alex Armstrong, have all parted company with the League Two club.

Hartlepool plunged into the bottom two, dropping behind Newport County, and are in grave danger of being relegated.

Senior player Matthew Bates is taking charge, assisted by club captain Billy Paynter, coach Stuart Parnaby and physio Ian Gallagher. They have two games to save the the club’s Football League lives, starting with Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham.

United earned only four wins under Jones in 18 matches and they lost 2-0 against Barnet at home on Saturday.

Jones vowed to stay in charge, but the club owners, JPNG, seemed to have taken action to end his three-month stay.

Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling, a Hartlepool fan, resigned as club president and said after the Barnet match: “It’s not personal Dave, but for God’s sake, for the good of the club go now.

“Walk now. It’s 13 points from 51. This is not your level of football.”

Newly-appointed player-coach Paynter questioned Jones’ tactics after he set up the team with a lone striker, Rhys Oates, against Barnet.

“I honestly thought we’d go two up top,” said Painter. “I don’t know what the manager was doing, but Oatesy seemed very isolated.

“I felt after the Leyton Orient game that we’d be guaranteed to get a reaction. Some players froze, which is disappointing, when you actually need men to stand up and fight for the shirt, fight for the cause.”

Newport County were 11 points adrift of safety at one stage, but are now third from bottom with matches against Carlisle United away and Notts County at home.

Hartlepool travel to Cheltenham Town this Saturday before playing Doncaster Rovers at home on the final day of 2016-17.

While United appear to be a team in crisis – their team performance against was described as ‘lifeless’ by the local media – Newport manager Mike Flynn is keen to finish the job he has started and keep his club in the Football League.

County have won six of their 10 matches since Flynn took charge, keeping four clean sheets in their last five fixtures.

“I want to finish the job. Getting this close now and not doing it would be heartbreaking for me and the club,” said Flynn.

Ryan Bird scored their winner against Accrington Stanley and Newport could secure Football League football for another season if they win at Carlisle on Saturday.

“It was a great three points and I’m over the moon,” says Flynn. “If fingers are crossed and lady luck smiles on us we could be safe, but all we can do is take care of what we can look after and we’ll see what happens at five o’clock next week.”

“It’s a good record, but there’s nothing achieved yet.

“It’s not about Michael Flynn, it’s about keeping Newport County in the Football League and we’ll worry about people’s views after that.

“It has been a great turnaround and the boys have been fantastic. Again today, their work rate, their application and togetherness was everything that we’ve asked for.

“I would have wanted a few more goals because I’m going greyer by the minute but I’ll take another couple of 1-0 wins before the end of the season, definitely.”
