Newcastle originally asked if they could have up to 10,000 tickets.

Cardiff City bent over backwards for the Geordie Club and even moved Cardiff season ticket holders to accommodate them.

Cardiff City then were able to arrange for Newcastle to have 6,000 tickets and sent them to Newcastle.

Newcastle put them on sale to Season ticket holders and Members but could only sell about 3,500, so they then put them on general sale which they are still currently are.

Cardiff City officials have now confirmed that the visitors are expected to have between 4,000 and 4,500 supporters at the match against the Bluebirds tomorrow night.

Newcastle United vs. Cardiff City preview

Geordie Blogg

Thursday 27th April 2017

In their first match since clinching promotion, Newcastle United will travel to face Cardiff City.

Thankfully Toon Army, the match tomorrow against Cardiff City does not impact if Newcastle United get promoted. It feels very nice to say that. If Newcastle United can win, there will be one big thing still up for grabs: the league title.

Newcastle would need to win both of their remaining matches, with Brighton not winning either of their final two. The match with Cardiff is their first time out since the promotion, and we are likely to see some younger players mixed in to the usual lineup.

The previous Sky Bet Championship match up of these two clubs this season was won by Newcastle United, 2-1 at St. James’ Park, in November.

Nothing is at stake for Cardiff City. They sit right at the middle of the table, 13th place, with 59 points. Kenneth Zohore leads the Bluebirds with 11 league goals this season. Another notable player on their roster is Aron Gunnarsson, who captained Iceland to an exciting run in Euro 2016.

The match kicks off at 7:45pm GMT, from Cardiff City Stadium. This is the final road fixture of the year for Newcastle United

It just proves that it is distance that is the obstacle, if they were playing anyone from the Midlands up they would have shifted 6-8,000 easy

Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday both brought 10,000 fans to Cardiff, when you want to really travel and make the effort you will :thumbright:

Plus Newcastle have yet to ever sell out in Cardiff and have brought as little as 200 fans once.

Even Crystal Palace brought about 4,000 fans here in the night and I regard. Them as a smaller club regarding support.
Newcastle get 50,000 home crowds, very disappointed in there away support.

I 100% agree South Wales on a Friday night is a very very long way, but we took 3,500 up there for a nothing game on a Friday night in 2010.

I also agree, that if say it was in Barnsley they would of taken 6,000 fans.

What I was saying was they Newcastle sell out at Cardiff.

I hope the club did no sale no return and charged them for the full amount. It's poor of them to ask for ten originally and then only sell 4,000. I am sure if there was something on the game it would be a diferent story

Nukes, they won't get a retrospective points deduction .... I posted this yesterday ,

Under the HMRC's COP9 an organisation has 60 days to agree to a "Contractual Disclosure Facility".

Simply put, 60 days to avoid prosecution in exchange for full and frank disclosure of all facts relating to the case which could help HMRC in the course of their investigation.

With regards to the support.... still pretty good as it's a Friday night on Sky...

Im not sure about that mate, they only went up Monday so most that would have come would have already booked tickets, sorted travel etc, if they had lost monday im not sure they would have brought that many more.

4,000 is still good mind but had they been playing someone up north or the midlands I reckon they would take 6-8,000 easy but South Wales is a long way on a Friday night. I think it was fantasy to think they would bring 10k tbh especialy on a friday night

They make out they are the biggest in the UK

I rem them only bringing 200 and 400 fans to us in the Old Division Two.

And one of there home crowds was 14,000 in the Old Division Two.

They've never sold out at Cardiff City and for me they shouted the odds big time asking for 10,000 tickets.

Don't get me wrong 4,500 is still brilliant, but theres a difference between 4,500 and asking for 10,000 tickets.

I thought they would sell out fast, this is a poor turn out for a club that gets 50,000 at home, just got promoted, and it's there last away game of the season. I guess like others have said if it was closer to home they might have sold out.

Seems that many would have held back to see if promotion was assured, which it now is :ayatollah:

It's a long way to travel for a 'nothing' game (Brighton are pretty much champions) that is live on Sky TV and allows the Newcastle fans to hold their own celebration party in their own backyard at the final game of the season next weekend against the Barnsley Tykes ;) :ayatollah:

Talking about anti climaxes, who remembers Mansfield Away in 99.

Remember us only having something silly like 800 tickets but it ended up with Cardiff all over the place and being sectioned off in one part of the main stand, we were already up so it was a nothing game in the end and lost 3-0

I remember jumping over the wall at the final whistle to run on the pitch and swiftly running back the other way as a copper went to smash me with his truncheon

over 4k on a friday night for a 600 mile round trip where neither promotion or the title will be decided has to be regarded as a good turn out.
should never have asked for 10k though.

I went to a Plymuff v Newcastle game on a Tue night back in the 80's,Plymuff won 2-0 and there were no more than 150 away supporters there.
Is a bloody long way though so respect to those who made it.

If they'd still needed to win to clinch promotion then they would have sold 10,000!

Still only two teams to ever bring 10,000 fans to Cardiff City, Sunderland and Sheff Wed :thumbright:

Newcastle tickets went on sale weeks ago to their 50,000 home fans.

Still excellent Away support.
