He is absolutely revered by Roma fans, because he is one of them himself. He comes across as a good bloke, as well, not afraid to laugh at himself. There are loads of jokes doing the rounds, along the lines that Totti is a bit thick, (he speaks in a strong, working class, Roman dialect), so he had published two books full of these jokes, and gave all the money to charity. Rome is the most football-mad city I have ever known, it dominates everything. When a Lazio fan was shot dead by a policeman, some years ago, Totti laid a wreath in front of their fans before a derby game.
Having said all that, I'm a SS Lazio fan myself, and went to watch them play regularly. Still go out once or twice a season to see them. Saw them play Cagliari back in October.
Buffon is not a one-club man, but stuck with Juventus when they were relegated to Serie B, as did Alessandro Del Piero, and others. This after just winning the World Cup.
A lot of people slag off Italian football, but they know their stuff. Italian fans look up to English football, rightly seeing it as the home of the game. I've got a lot of time for them.
