Neil Warnock's cheeky taunt at relegated Blackburn Rovers as toasts his Cardiff City turnaround
Neil Warnock celebrated a winning end to the season that saw once-relegated threatened Cardiff City finish in the top-half – and then reminded that doomed Blackburn Rovers rejected him.
And after noting that Nottingham Forest – who survived in the Championship by the skin of their teeth on the final day – also turned him down, he's pointed to how he's turned Cardiff around as he looks to build again this summer.
Warnock now wants to add to his squad quickly, revealing he's already in late stages on deals for fringe players but eager for landing key men having provided a platform to build from.
Cardiff were just two points above bottom-placed Rotherham when Warnock walked into Cardiff City Stadium back in October.
They have since gone on to collected 54 points from his 35 games in charge – enough to see the Bluebirds finish above Aston Villa and in 12th.
Having thrashed play-off bound Huddersfield 3-0 in the final game, the transformation has delighted Warnock and left him eager to see what more he can achieve.
But he couldn't resist a cheeky jibe at those who didn't take advantage of his veteran experience, saying: “When you go to a club second from bottom, it's fair to say it wasn't in a very good situation when I arrived.
"I actually had interviews at Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers so I wonder what they are thinking today now we've finished in the top-half. I had good interviews but they went elsewhere so that's Cardiff's gain.
“I think I've turned the club around; I don't think it'd the end of the job, but I do think we're moving forward in the right direction on and off the field.”
And it's something Warnock will press home to owner Vincent Tan as he gets ready for a face-to-face meeting in Malaysia over plans, but he did insist the Bluebirds' backer remained committed to Cardiff's ambitions.
"When you look at Blackburn, Birmingham, Forest, clubs with foreign ownerships and it's not gone the right way for them."
