Norwich City and Ipswich Town are reportedly set to battle for Tom Adeyemi.

According to the Sheffield Star, Norwich City are interested in re-signing midfielder Tom Adeyemi – but local rivals Ipswich Town actually lead the race for his signature.

Adeyemi, 25, joined Cardiff City from Birmingham City in 2014, but after making 23 appearances in his first season with the Bluebirds, he has been cast aside in South Wales.

Cardiff City have not renewed Adeyemi's contract and so he is a free agent.

The midfielder spent last season on loan with Leeds United, before moving on to Rotherham United on loan this term, serving as one of their few shining lights in a relegation campaign.

Adeyemi has notched seven goals and two assists in 30 appearances in all competitions this season, and with his contract set to expire this summer, a real fight for his services could be on the cards.

The Sheffield Star report that Ipswich Town are currently leading the race for Adeyemi's signature, but Norwich City are believed to be keen on battling their fierce rivals to land him.

Adeyemi, who was born in Norwich, came up through the ranks with the Canaries having joined the club way back in 2000, but left for Birmingham in 2013 after just 17 appearances for Norwich.

Now, with new sporting director Stuart Webber calling the shots until a new manager is appointed, it's believed that Norwich want to bring Adeyemi back to Carrow Road on a free transfer this summer.

An athletic central midfielder, Adeyemi has impressed this term and should have a number of offers on the table, but Norwich may have to outbid rivals Ipswich to re-sign him this summer.

Box-to-box midfielder, Adeyemi has flourished at Rotherham this season, and has often been the star man in a generally woeful Millers outfit.

The 25-year-old only scored six goals, but given they came in a team that netted just 29 in the Championship all season, that’s not a bad return. He also provided two assists.

Athletic and rangy, Adeyemi is good in the air and known as a ball winner.

Having started his career at Norwich City, Adeyemi enjoyed loan spells at Bradford, Oldham and Birmingham, before joining Birmingham City on a two-year deal in the summer of 2013.

Three goals in 40 appearances for the Blues alerted Championship rivals Cardiff, but soon after being signed, manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer left the club and his career with the Bluebirds never really took off.

Spent a season on-loan with Leeds in 2015-16, before returning to Cardiff last summer.

I would have loved him to have stayed with us and see how he might have developed with the Warnock magic. I always thought he could have been a big player for us.

Should be keeping him, other good clubs can see his talents. Warnock could make him a class midfielder.
