Cardiff City make enquiry about Motherwell defender — Reports Sky Sports

Sky Sports

Thursday 11th May 2017

Cardiff City are one of three clubs reportedly interested in signing the Motherwell centre back Ben Heneghan.

Sky Sports are reporting that the Bluebirds, along with Rangers and Reading, are interesting in securing the defender's services this summer.

Heneghan has one year remaining on his Motherwell contract after making 40 appearances for the Scottish Premiership outfit this season.

The 23-year-old centre back graduated through the youth system at Stoke City before starring for Chester between 2014 and 2016.

He's impressed in his debut season in Scotland and could now fit the bill for a Championship club.

The Bluebirds are expected to lose Bruno Manga this summer, with his contract set to expire. Manager Neil Warnock is resigned to losing the Gabon international — barring a last gasp turnaround — and could target Heneghan as a replacement.

Again the type of signing we should be looking for, although disappointing to lose Manga we already have Morrison, Bamba and Connolly who are 3 strong championship defender. Hopefully we will now go for a younger defender to be pushing for a start.

Would agree with this. As much as I admire Manga paying him a King's ransom to stay has all the hallmarks of stuffing all your eggs in one basket. What happens if he gets injured and is out for a lengthy period? Better to add to our solid centre back pool with a young up and coming star.

Not to mention his international commitments.
