' 2016-17 SEASON HAD AN 11% INCREASE IN HOME CROWDS FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP '

Overall there was an 11% increase on the 2015/16 campaign and it registers as the highest cumulative attendances for almost 60 years - 1958/59 saw a figure of 18.8million enter grounds across the county.

The Championship saw more than 11million supporters attend matches across the year with Newcastle averaging an attendance of more than 51,000 and Aston Villa second with more than 32,000.


Cardiff City 2016-17 Season was 16,564 after 23 games, which is an increase on last season (16,463) 2015-16 Season, But away support by away fans visiting the Cardiff City stadium was well up on the previous seasons.


Away average support for the Championship was the highest in the last ten years.

League One and Two Champions Sheffield United and Portsmouth had the highest average crowds in their respective divisions with Bramall Lane seeing just under 22,000 and Fratton Park close to 17,000.


Sheffield United Averaged 22,000 home crowds last season in Div 1

Bradford were were second with 19,000 home crowds last season in Div 1

Portsmouth Averaged 17,000 home crowds last season in Div 2
