CARDIFF CITY LOSE OUT ON £2.5MILL

Link
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=176473

Cardiff City Sold David Marshall to Hull City for a deal believed to be worth up to £5mill, But only got half up front and the rest believed to be depending on Hull City staying up in the Premier League and and part of it Marshall making 25 appearances in the Premier League, neither happened.

Cardiff City's Committee took a gamble, and have lost out big time and then replaced Marshall with on loan goalie Ben Amos at £16,000 a week who hardly played yet we had to pay a season long wages. Then City got in Hull's other goalie Allan McGregor on loan paying half his wages.

More bad news Swansea stayed up instead of Hull City

Another shocking decision. Why add this clause in. Selling marshall for 2.5m was terrible business.

Absolutely shocking, if true. Ca'nt wait to read the club statement on this stupid decision. No wonder we're always under the threat of ffp, throwing money away all the time.

I will stick up for the club on this one. Marshall undoubtedly very popular with City fans and always will be. However, 2.5mill the market value. Could of got a lot more after our relegation, that's where any criticism should stem from if this topic is about getting optimum value

SKY SPORTS

CARDIFF CITY ACCEPT BID FOR GOALKEEPER DAVID MARSHALL FROM PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB HULL CITY

' UPDATED ' 26/08/16

DAVID MARSHALL SOLD

I've been told David Marshall will make his last Cardiff City appearance tomorrow against Reading.

Its believed Hull City have bought him for £2.5mill, rising to £3.5mill and rising again to £5mill depending on how many Premier League Appearances he has for Hull City.

I've also been told Marshall was very very happy at Cardiff City and did not ask to leave.

Whatever the real circumstances behind his move, seems to me there is a perfect opportunity here to bring Marshall back to where he belongs for sesnsible money. Do it Neil.

If Hull had stayed up with Marshall playing 25 games it would have been cracking bit of business.Neither happened because both weren't good enough so £2.5 m seems ok to me.

The 28 year old David Marshall just off a premier league season was worth £5 mill, the 32 was only worth £2.5 with add ons. Why - Because that was the only deal available. Marshy was up for grabs and it was well known, but only Hull came in for him with that deal.

not that bad business we could probably pick him up for 1m now he was awful for them

Personally think it's time we moved on from him now, brilliant when here but the mistakes were creeping in before he left. rather we went for someone on lower wages now.

Marshall was passed his best and worth less than £2.5m when we sold him. We got that money for a reserve team goalkeeper who let in numerous goals when he got his chance, and will be third choice at his club next season. His wages were too high for us and not good value for money. He will always be a legend here, and we certainly enjoyed the best days of his career, but I think the club has done good business and got market value when we sold him.

I was gutted we sold him and amos was a terrible signing to replace however I watched Marshall and he didn't look right at Hull people say their defence were rubbish ours when we were in the premiership was poor but Marshal was brilliant something changed for him so maybe 2,5 million was not to bad

100%

There was a window of opportunity to sell at a higher price but that was when he was needed most!!

A player is only worth what a club is willing to pay? And don't recall lots of clubs bidding for his services, so that must tell you something about things! And not sure why fans on here are moaning about regarding the deal as it was in public domain what the contract was when sold!

First of all Allan, Other Clubs did not know they could pay as little as £2.5mill for Marshall, a tag of £10mill was put on him by our Cardiff City Committee.

Allan, you posted this a while back, what did you mean?

Yes but he refused several offers before to go, anyway doesn't matter what happens to him he's not a city player!

how could he be worth 5mill if the only offer was 2.5.?

the second part of your post is true though. trollope should have been given a much lower wage ceiling to work with if wage reports on Amos are true.

I agree with you. Taking in his age and the length left on his contract his market value was around £2.5m so the add on payments were bonuses no more than that.
