A female football star from Bosnia has been banned for life after handing out a vicious beating to an opponent.

Silvija Sekacic's unprovoked attack on Adnu Ljubanovic in the top flight encounter between Zeljeznicar and Mladost.

Sekacic pinned Ljubanovic to the ground and struck her repeatedly before team-mates and officials could break up the fight.

Despite being shown a red card, Sekacic showed no remorse: “Red card, but at least if nothing else I beat her up.”

Mladost released a statement calling for Sekacic to be given a life ban and the Bosnia-Herzogovina football association have obliged in what they described as a 'serious offence.'

"What words can you use to describe this act and yet stay polite? It is enough to say this kind of behaviour has nothing to do with common sense," read a Mladost statement.

"People like Silvija don't belong in football and she deserves to be suspended for life."
