Neil Warnock was officially the best managerial appointment of the season...

THE TIMES

Friday 19th May 2017

Cardiff City enjoyed remarkable success following the appointment of Neil Warnock as manager after Paul Trollope has been sacked after a 2-0 defeat at Burton. The Times confirms that Warnock was officially the best managerial appointment made during the course of the season in terms of the number of places made up.

The Bluebirds were 23rd in the Championship with just eight points from their opening 11 league matches when the club decided to axe Trollope and hire Warnock.

The Yorkshireman led the club to safety and even saw his side secure a top half finish by thrashing promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town 3-0 at the John Smith's Stadium on the final day of the campaign.

Cardiff more than doubled their points-per-game tally from 0.72 to 1.54 under Warnock and jumped up from 23rd place to 12th, the biggest improvement made by a manager who was appointed during the 2016-17 campaign.

Totally deserved recognition for a job well done Annis!

I hope he is given the backing to develop things further next season. He should have some financial backing to appoint those he needs to complete the job.

Top 6 minimum target I would imagine, but give him the tools to work with.

No doubt hes a good manager, but as I have said before, it is too much short term thinking. Last season he did great steering the side out of trouble and steadying the ship. That should have been it though as far as Warnock and Cardiff go. You want to be looking at longevity now, a young hungry manager to build something towards the long term goal of promotion in a league getting harder by each passing season.

Once Warnock spends his warchest, what then? The new manager is left with players he undoubtedly doesnt want (many of which will be ageing as seems to be Warnocks player of preference) and the maybe not even fitting in his style of play and the club starts from scratch again. Given Warnocks age, when will that be? 1 season? 2 max?

I want Cardiff in the Prem, the derby in the Prem would be special. But the continued short term thinking will hamper rather than encourage success in my opinion.
