Norwich Keen On Tom Adeyemi Return after being released by Cardiff City

Norwich City News

Sunday May 21, 2017

Norwich City are set for a huge summer, with sporting director Stuart Webber already overseeing a host of major changes.

The Canaries not only parted ways with manager Alex Neil shortly before Webber's arrival, but they have also confirmed that seven players – John Ruddy, Steven Whittaker, Sebastien Bassong, Michael Turner, Ryan Bennett, Youssouf Mulumbu and Kyle Lafferty – will all leave on free transfers this summer.

A new manager should be imminent for Norwich, and a host of new signings will be prepared, with one former Norwich youngster being linked with a surprise return to East Anglia.

The Sheffield Star report that Norwich want to re-sign midfielder Tom Adeyemi, who is poised to move on as a free agent this summer when his contract Cardiff City contract ends.

Adeyemi, 25, was born in Norwich and came up through the ranks with the club, and moved on to Birmingham City and Cardiff City, before loan spells with Leeds United and Rotherham United.

The athletic midfielder was one of the few shining lights from Rotherham's relegation campaign, notching six goals and two assists in the Championship this season, and Norwich seemingly want to hand him another shot at success at Carrow Road.

The move would make particular sense if Fleetwood Town boss Uwe Rosler – currently the favourite for the Norwich job with Sky Bet – was to be confirmed as Neil's replacement, given the relationship between the pair.

Rosler worked with Adeyemi at Brentford during the 2012-13 season, and then swooped to sign him again whilst managing Leeds, reuniting at Elland Road in another loan deal.

Adeyemi is clearly one of Rosler's most trusted players, and a move to bring him back to Carrow Road seems to be ideal for the Canaries should they bring in the German as their new boss, immediately handing him a familiar new signing without breaking the bank.

Should Leeds United give Cardiff City's Tom Adeyemi a second Elland Road chance?

Norwich City and Ipswich Town are leading the race for Cardiff City outcast Tom Adeyemi - a year after his loan spell at Leeds United ended.

If there’s one position Leeds United are perhaps not in desperate need of bodies, its central midfield. After all, with Liam Bridcutt, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips all fighting for two positions in Garry Monk’s side, it would be a surprise if any like for like replacements arrived at Elland Road this summer.

Nonetheless, with Tom Adeyemi attracting interest from Anglian rivals Norwich City and Ipswich Town, as reported by the Sheffield Star, you wonder whether Leeds United will be tempted to bring the midfielder back to Elland Road this summer.

A rare bright spot in an otherwise record-shatteringly bad Rotherham United side, the 25-year-old Millers loanee appears certain to leave parent club Cardiff City this summer after falling out of favour in South Wales.

And 2016/17 was his second successive season on loan in Yorkshire having spent the previous campaign at Leeds.

However, despite The Whites having an option to buy in Adeyemi’s deal, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the fact that he barely featured in the second half of the season meant it was no surprise when the former Oldham youngster did not stick around.

Though Adeyemi, to his credit, admitted that he would have jumped at the chance of signing a permanent deal.

And it appears that Adeyemi would be a far better addition for Leeds United now than he would have been last summer. After all, he netted six goals from midfield in a Rotherham team who finished 28 points adrift of safety in the second tier.

None of the midfielders in Leeds’ squad managed anywhere near as many, despite Monk’s side finishing in the dizzying heights of seventh. In fact, Bridcutt, Vieira, O’Kane and Phillips netted just two between them.
