LEEDS UNITED OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Club accepts Garry Monk's resignation

25/05/17

Leeds United can confirm that we have received Garry Monk’s resignation from his role as First Team Manager.

We are shocked and disappointed by Garry’s decision but his resignation has been reluctantly accepted by Chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

Andrea made it clear to the media yesterday that his intention was to exercise the Club's option to extended the Manager's contract for another 12 months and immediately begin negotiations for a longer term deal.

Mr Radrizzani has met with Garry twice since taking over at Elland Road earlier this week and during the second meeting yesterday it became clear that Garry was considering life beyond Leeds United as at no time did Garry wish to discuss terms for a longer contract.

Following that meeting yesterday Garry’s agent requested that the option was not exercised and his resignation was received this morning.

Whilst we are deeply saddened by Garry’s decision, there is no individual bigger than our Club and we will now begin a process to identify and appoint a new Head Coach to take the club to the next level.

We thank Garry for his contribution during his time at Leeds United, we are disappointed that we could not continue on this journey together.

Probably looking for a job where he's not looking over his shoulder constantly.

Boro perhaps?

Sunderland?

Putting rivalries aside I think Monk has a done a brilliant job for Leeds this season and he's been treated badly in the process. He should have known months ago whether he had a job for next season to allow him to plan and get the squad together, Leeds have shot themselves in the foot big time - again!

As a manager I wish him the best as I actually liked him as a manager (a player! not so much)

Nothing 'together' about Leeds Disunited these days, Paul :laughing6:

Just heard a Leeds fan on TalkSport (actually making a bit of sense) when he said that it will be difficult to attract any decent manager to that club whilst Massimo Cellino still has an interest, which he currently still has

I'm not sure what Monk's plans are but a spell with the Stripey Nigels of Croydon might be on the cards?

One thing is for sure, he won't have walked for nothing after building the team up nicely over the season and tying a few players to long contracts ;)

Hmm, seems to be suggesting that Monk is interested in going elsewhere. Palace and maybe Sunderland are the only teams that would make sense to leave Leeds for right now. And as much as I hate Monk, he has proven himself to be a very good manager and I think this will be a huge loss to Leeds and I now don't see then challenging for top 6 next season.

I think Leeds have had a lucky escape,Monk bottled that campaign towards the end,a team in that position should never have dropped out of the playoffs, losing to that non league team with Arsenal waiting in the next round didn't help either.
He did well at the JB's after inheriting a decent squad but after putting his stamp on the team the next season it all went pear shaped mainly due to his signings.
They had me worried for a moment though,i thought they may come good but it's great to see them in turmoil again.

Leeds will always attract good managers. Monk mucked it up ultimately so their fans cant really blame the italian
