Cardiff City are interested in signing Newcastle United and Scotland international centre-back Grant Hanley according to reports.

The Bluebirds are among three other clubs who want to recruit the 25 year-old defender who won the Championship title with Newcastle United this season according to the Chronicle.

Hanley is out-of-favour at St James Park after making just 10 league appearances in the Black & White of Newcastle.

It is the Rams who are in pole position to sign the former Blackburn man who could cost the club up to £4 million as the Toon look to try and recoup some of the £5.5m they paid for him back in the summer transfer window.

It is unlikely that Cardiff will be able to afford the £4m asking price of Hanley with the clubs budget rumoured to be just over that. This may force Neil Warnock into negotiating a possible loan move for Hanley or instead persuade the Bluebirds hierachy for a higher transfer budget.

Hanley is no stranger to Cardiff, scoring against the Bluebirds for Blackburn in the early part of last season, as well as scoring against Wales in a World Cup Qualifier for Scotland.

Absolutely no chance I reckon.

Would be a great signing, but can't see it happening financially.

If we've only got a 6 million pound budget he's not going to blow it all on one player

Cardiff Target Newcastle Defender?

27/05/17

It was being reported yesterday that Cardiff City had joined Aston Villa, Derby County and Wolves in the chase for Newcastle's Grant Hanley.

The reports seem to have stemmed from a report by the Chronicle where they say that manager Rafa Benitez will be looking for around the £5.5million mark so they don't lose out on what they paid Blackburn Rovers for him last summer.

Since arriving at St James' Park the Scottish centre half has only made eleven starting appearances with a further five from the bench but six of those starts came in Cup competitions.

They report that Derby County are in pole position at the moment, but Cardiff join Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers in expressing an interest in the 25 year old.

I wouldn't swap any of our centre backs for this Guy, gobsmacked when Newcastle signed him from Blackburn the guy is a donkey with no pace.

Couldn't agree more. He is a leader and seems a good character which is what Warnock looks for, but I've seen submarines turn quicker!

We don't need any more centre backs if Patterson joins. Pair up Manga and Bamba and leave them play and develop their partnership. They'll be the best centre back pairing in the Championship next season.

Would be an amazing addition, but I can't see us being able to afford him.
