The Frenchman was a regular in the Bluebirds' first team in his debut campaign in south Wales having joined Cardiff from Rennes for a fee in the region of £2m.
He made 30 appearances for the club in the 2013-14 season but chose to return to France after Cardiff's relegation, spending the 2014-15 campaign on loan with Saint-Etienne before signing a permanent deal with the club.
Theophile-Catherine racked up 37 appearances for the club last season as Saint-Etienne secured an eighth placed finish in Ligue 1.
