Jeremy Corbyn's new temporary shadow home secretary once quit his top team and urged the party to elect a new leader “for the good of the country”.

Lyn Brown was first appointed to Labour’s shadow home affairs team in 2015, before she stepped down after describing the situation as "untenable".

Following a failed attempt to remove him from his position at the top of the party, Ms Brown was reappointed as minister for policing just months later in October 2016.


A Labour Party statement issued on Wednesday morning said Ms Brown would replace Diane Abbott as shadow home secretary while she recovered from an illness.

She made the news in 2011 amid reports that she had shouted "move out of my f---ing way" at a blind reporter after bumping into him in Parliament.

The Labour politician also collided with the Talksport political editor Sean Dilley and his guide dog.

She is reported to have sworn at him.
