NEIL WARNOCK RESPONDS TO SHEFFIELD WEDS MORRISON 'OFFER'

Neil Warnock responds to Sheffield Wednesday's Sean Morrison bid, with Cardiff said to want closer to £6m

Sheffield Wednesday are said to have bid £3 million for the Cardiff City captain.

Cardiff City are seeking closer to £6 million for Sheffield Wednesday target Sean Morrison, Wales Online reports.

The Owls are said to offered £3 million for the Bluebirds centre-back, who it is claimed is happy at the Cardiff City Stadium and hopes to captain Neil Warnock's side to promotion next season.

And Warnock, the former Sheffield United manager, is quoted as saying: "[£3 million] wouldn't even buy one of Morrison's legs."

According to Wales Online, Cardiff believe that selling Morrison would "send out the wrong signals" ahead of a planned promotion push.

And another concern for the Bluebirds is the future of another central defender, Bruno Ecuele-Manga, whose contract with them expires at the end of this month.

It remains to be seen whether Wednesday, who have been defeated in each of the last two Championship play-off campaigns, will continue their interest in Morrison, who scored four league goals and created another eight this past season.

Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal is keen to add at least one new centre-back this summer and is considering bids for Grant Hanley and Daniel Ayala, of Newcastle United and Middlesbrough respectively, according to the Sheffield Star.

CARDIFF CITY MUST AVOID CASHING IN ON THIS PLAYER IF THEY ARE TO MOUNT A PUSH FOR PROMOTIONFeatured Image

When Neil Warnock was appointed as Cardiff City’s manager last season, few would have predicted what the 68-year old would achieve in Wales, as he guided the Bluebirds from the pits of the Sky Bet Championship, to a top-half finish in under eight months.

After Cardiff’s 12th placed finish, Warnock has set his sights on a push for promotion in the Championship next season, signing a year contract extension at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Warnock will be active throughout the summer, shaping a squad capable of challenging for promotion, with the 68-year old already bringing Neil Etheridge and winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing to Cardiff.

There is also likely to be exits from Cardiff, with Warnock hinting a number of players could be moving on this summer. The Bluebirds have also received interest in Sean Morrison, the club captain, and have recently rejected a £3m bid from Sheffield Wednesday.

If Warnock and Cardiff are serious about mounting a promotion challenge next season, they must stand firm over Morrison and keep him at the Cardiff City Stadium this summer.

The 26-year old made 46 appearances across all competitions last season, missing just two of Cardiff’s Championship fixtures and impressing throughout.

Morrison also formed an excellent partnership with Sol Bamba in central defence, following the Ivorian’s arrival from Leeds United, which was crucial in Cardiff’s rise through the Championship.

It is easy to see why Championship clubs will be interested in signing Morrison this summer, but it is vitally important that Cardiff manage to retain his service this summer and avoid any temptations to accept a multi-million pound offer.

Warnock proved last season what an excellent manager he can be in the Championship, and if he is trusting Cardiff to give him enough backing to mount a promotion challenge next year, they must make sure Morrison is in his squad at the end of the summer or risk losing him.

surprised that Wednesday are looking to spend 3-4m on Morrison when they could buy Bruno Manga who is better for free baffling really. oh well hope we can keep both, unless Wednesday offer 6m in that case I would bite their hands off

Manga may not be type player they are looking for as Morrison & manga are totally different styles of players! Why buy someone you don't need? :old:

fair point, but for a team that like to pass it out from the back and have technical players, is Morrison the type of player they want? he has a 60% pass completion which is terrible really. just thought that Manga would suit their style of football a lot better tbh. but then some of Carvahal's signings over the past year have been poor.

Paul, it was said the Morrison was the "love to hate" player Neil Warnock referred to in his media interview and this would be a great endorsement/confidence boost for him by the manager in readiness for next season

Have to say that £3m+ seems a good price to me though and would have to be tempting if it allows Neil Warnock to use the money in addition to what he has already been promised :ayatollah:

Never been keen on manga whilst he's a good player going forward his defensive aptitude wasn't great at Times!

Lot of people think Manga is better than Morrison but clearly Warnock and other managers think differently . However I do feel Morrison gets some unfair stuff on here

i do agree with what you say about the love to hate thing.. and think both Warnock and Morrison believe he is really unpopular
but thats not my take, we do have fans that slaughter him but the majority i speak to think at this level his attributes outweigh his mistakes..plus our manager likes no frills, defending.
we wont do better for 3 mill

It's great the criticism he gets because it has nothing to do with his on field performances but more of the fact because he took a s**t on the streets of Cardiff on a night out.
