This is what Wales now need to do to qualify for the World Cup after Serbia draw

Wales kept their hopes of reaching the Russia tournament well and truly alive with a point in Belgrade

Wales kept their hopes of reaching the 2018 World Cup in Russia well and truly alive as they claimed a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Serbia in Belgrade.

Aaron Ramsey's sensational Panenka penalty looked like earning Chris Coleman's men a famous win in the Serbian capital, but Newcastle man Aleksandar Mitrovic broke Welsh hearts once again to earn the hosts a share of the spoils late on, just as he did in Cardiff in the reverse fixture

Despite failing to hold on to their lead, Wales remain in the hunt to reach next year's World Cup in Russia after preserving their unbeaten record in the qualifying campaign.

Prior to the game in Serbia, Stoke man Jonathan Walters scored a late equaliser for Republic of Ireland as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Austria at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

It means Martin O'Neill's men now have 12 points, as do Serbia who remain at the top of Group D.

Wales stay in third, moving up to eight points with four games remaining.

Aaron Ramsey's stunning Panenka penalty kick was even more incredible than you first realised
Austria are in fourth, just two points behind Wales ahead of the meeting between the two sides at Cardiff City Stadium in September, while Georgia and Moldova are fifth and sixth respectively.

Victory for Wales against Austria would hugely boost their chances of claiming a top two spot as Ireland host Serbia later this year.

But they will be without Stoke man Joe Allen who received his second booking of the qualifying campaign in the draw against Serbia.

Ireland travel to Georgia for their next match on September 2 while Serbia host Moldova.

But at least one of the top two sides will drop points when they meet on September 5, meaning Wales will have a golden opportunity to close the gap when they take on group strugglers Moldova on the same night.

Coleman's men end the campaign with a trip to Georgia on October 6 before hosting Ireland in Cardiff three days later.

How Group D looks with four games to go

1 Serbia - 12 points

2 Republic of Ireland - 12 points

3 Wales - 8 points

4 Austria - 8 points

5 Georgia - 3 points

6 Moldova - 2 points

Serbia play away in Ireland

So Wales must win their game at home to Moldova then beat Ireland home, no more draws win, win, win.

Need to win all four remaining games. A difficult task considering we have won just once in the six played so far.

Haven't we scored the 1st goal in every game that we've drawn? Failure to keep a lead seems to be a thing for Wales and Cardiff

Its been very worrying not being able to hold on to a lead.
