A van ploughed into worshippers outside a mosque in London on Sunday night, killing one person and injuring eight people in what London's mayor described as "a horrific terrorist attack".

Officers arrested one man after they were called shortly after midnight to the incident on Seven Sisters Road, near Finsbury Park station.

One man died and eight people were taken to hospital, Scotland Yard said. The 48-year-old driver was arrested by police after being detained by members of public at the scene.

The London Ambulance Service said eight people were taken to hospital and a number of people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The van which drove into worshippers near a north London mosque belongs to a Welsh hire firm.


One man has died and 10 people have been injured after a van mounted a pavement near Finsbury Park Mosque.
Forensics officers are examining a white van which has Pontyclun Van Hire on it - a Rhondda Cynon Taff firm.
The van driver, a 48-year-old man, has been arrested and Home Secretary Amber Rudd said police were treating it "as a terrorist incident".


Just after midnight BST, the van hit people who were helping a man who had collapsed in the street. He later died, but his cause of death is unclear.
Police said all the victims were Muslim and the 48-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
South Wales Police officers arrived at Pontyclun Van Hire just after 07:30 BST on Monday.
A member of staff at the company said: "We are not saying anything, we don't know anything at the moment."

So so sad. I was up last night due to the heat watching Sky News at 3.00am and saw a different reaction by the" locals" being interviewed to that shown on the various morning news programmes. I guess the footage was too edgy to be shown on daytime TV. There were lots of rants about white terrorists being allowed to do terrible things like this and how the THREE attackers were armed with knives and stabbing people (all not true) and why were they allowed to get away with it in this day and age. Lets hope we all calm down and stand together and show whatever your ethnic/cultural background if a country is worth living in then it's worth respecting both it's laws and culture, as already said ISIS and hate preachers want to divide us, they can both get stuffed.

I'm astonished this hasn't happened before. There have been a string of attacks by Muslims and people's patients is wearing thin. It's all well and good saying we should 'stand together' and not let people 'divide' us but when there's one Muslim terrorist attack after another people are going to think about striking back.

Who ever carried out this attack will be severely punished and all those connected with him will be brought to justice. In other words we sort out our dirty washing. The Muslim community have to start doing their bit by rooting out bad in their communities.

For too long they have got away with playing the victim card and that has to change.

well all the perpertrators of recent attacks have either been killed or caught so rooting them out is out of the question especially as none seemed to be part of a wider well organised plot..and the next one is going to be as random as the previous attacks. i dont know about not playing into their hands either..barriers have gone up..police are now vissibly armed at large events..and our inteligence services along with the police are both spending lots of money and lots of time trying to figure out who and where next time. London Bridge saw 3 terrorists shot dead in 8 minutes,this suggests to me we have quick response armed teams at what the authorities deem likely hot spots...we are already responding.
