Home Boxing Day and Home for the final game

QPR away on New Years Day is a good fixture as is Bristol City away early in November. Not a bad set of fixtures :D

The Championship fixture list for 2017/18 means Cardiff City fans will have to wait four weeks for a home fixture between September 30 and October 28.

Bluebirds fans will also clock up some serious mileage following their team in the upcoming season, especially in April.

Neil Warnock's side will be licking their lips at a tantalising fixture list which revealed a testing start for the play-off hopefuls. They face Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Fulham, Sunderland, Leeds United and Derby County before the end of September.

But an oddity in the fixture schedule means the clash with Gary Rowett's Derby at Cardiff City Stadium on September 30 will be the Bluebirds' last home game for 28 days — they next host Millwall in the Welsh capital on October 28.

Two away games (against Birmingham on October 14 and Middlesbrough on October 21), plus an international break, are the reasons for the barren period for home fans. There may also be a Third Round Carabao Cup tie in that time for the Bluebirds, on October 25.

But a twist of the 2017/18 schedule sees three of the Bluebirds' longer trips all scheduled for April. Warnock's men have four away games from six games in the penultimate month of the season. They'll travel a combined distance of 837 miles to away grounds in April.

Cardiff travel to their manager's old Bramall Lane stamping ground to take on Sheffield United on Easter Monday, a journey of 202 miles.

Eight days later the Bluebirds are at Villa Park, a mere 118 miles drive — but then the mammoth journeys come thick and fast. Cardiff meet Norwich at Carrow Road on April 14 which means a trip of 269 miles for the Saturday kick off (and probably an early start too).

Grealish came up against the in-form Gunnarsson for most of yesterday's game
The Bluebirds face Nottingham Forest at home on April 21 before another gruelling away journey, to Hull City's KCom Stadium on April 28. That's 148 miles.

Was it TS Eliot who wrote how April is the cruellest month? It certainly is for Cardiff City fans in 2018...

Cardiff City's away trips in April 2018

Sheffield United vs Cardiff City, April 2 — 202 miles

Aston Villa vs Cardiff City, April 10 — 118 miles

Norwich City vs Cardiff City, April 14 — 269 miles

Hull City vs Cardiff City, April 28 — 248 miles

At least we can go into next season more hopeful than the last 2 or 3 seasons ;)

A tough start.
I can see many games moved because of Sky or rugby maybe.
