Stewart Downing not needed at Championship club Middlesbrough
By SSN HQ

Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing has been told he doesn't feature in new manager Garry Monk's plans and he can leave the club, say Sky sources.

The 32-year-old winger, who made 35 appearances for England between 2005-2014, will be keen to find new employers with the new season just a few weeks away.

Downing made 249 appearances for Boro in two spells at the club. He re-joined his boyhood club in July 2015 from West Ham in a four-year deal for a reported £5.5m.

Monk was confirmed as the new Boro boss on a three-year contract after chairman Steve Gibson held formal interviews with him and former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson.

Middlesbrough will be targeting an immediate return to the Premier League after their relegation last season.

Love his technical ability. Wouldn't mind him a CAM role

Can play Left Midfield or Centre Midfield. A very good player, and signing him would be a massive improvement. He can cross and score free-kicks. I have watched a lot of West Ham over the years, he was class years ago for them - remember him going to Liverpool and destroying them.

No point even looking at Downing. No better than Whitts IMO and I think he's done for.

Ned, that would be a good fit and makes sense. I know it was a couple of years ago but he tore us a new one in our first Premier League fixture away to West Ham United and I was impressed at his workrate :ayatollah:
