Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of striker Danny Ward from Rotherham United.

The twenty-six-year-old forward has committed to the Bluebirds until the summer of 2020, becoming the Club’s fifth signing of the summer. He’ll join fellow recruits Neil Etheridge, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Callum Paterson and Lee Camp when the squad returns for pre-season training at the end of June.

Bradford-born Danny links up with Neil Warnock for a second time, having worked under him in 2016 during the Bluebirds Boss’ time in charge at the New York Stadium.

Speaking to cardiffcityfc.co.uk, Neil said of his latest signing: “I’ve worked with Danny and I know what he’s about. During my time at Rotherham he was either scoring the goals or making them for the team.

“He played wide left, right, in the hole, up front; Danny’s a crowd-pleaser with very good energy levels, but I also think there’s a lot more to come from him.

“I’ve been chasing Danny since Christmas and I think we’ve finally got him now for an excellent price.

“We tried a few systems last season and I think we’re going to need that variety again; Danny gives us that flexibility in the attacking areas that we’re going to need.

“Danny knows what I want and this is a great opportunity for him.”

Having completed his move at Cardiff City Stadium, Danny added: “I’m really glad to get everything sorted before pre-season starts and looking forward to getting going.

“I’ve played at Cardiff City Stadium a few times and always enjoy it; it’s a lovely place to play. Hopefully we can fill it up in the new season and really get going.

“The Gaffer, Blacky (Kevin Blackwell) and Jeppo (Ronnie Jepson) really turned things round at Rotherham when they came in and I loved playing for them. I’m looking forward to it again at my new club.

“I already know Mozza (Sean Morrison), Pilks (Anthony Pilkington), Pelts (Lee Peltier), Gunnar (Aron Gunnarsson) and a few others. Coming to a place where you already know people makes it a bit easier; I’m looking forward it.”

Spot on Sven..another one signed up early

Warnock seems to think he has got a bit of a bargain price wise as well for a player who can play 3/4 different positions

Welcome and good luck Danny :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I can't recall him. Did he play in our 5-0 ?

What size is he, Noony or Lambert ? Is he a fox in the box; a pacey player who is hit or miss in front of goal or a target man. Who is he similar to that I'd know ?

Let's hope he's as good as the managers assessment in the OP.
You've gotta trust Warnock!

Decent signing!

Also he didn't play in the 5-0 loss because he was injured.

I agree with you.

May be in the minority, a lot of people on here don't seem too sure about him, but have a feeling he'll have a great season for us.

At Huddersfield he played as a wide player, and set up the goals that kept them up on the last day of the season. Last season at Rotherham, he scored 12 goals in one of the worst Championship sides in years.

We've spent a reported £1.8m on him if you include add-ons, so I expect Warnock sees him as one for the starting line-up. It will be interesting to see where he fits in - possibly in between the midfield and Zohore, going by his comments?

Warnock is signing players to work in his way of playing which should build a good team ethic

I am not sure what to make of the players signed so far, including this one.

As far as the so-called War chest of£5- £6M NW seams to have only spent about £2M so far and according to him a few weeks back he was looking for a striker, Keeper and mid-field general, that just leaves the mid-field, is he going to have a big signing with that one ???

Imagine if Russell Slade spent 1.6 million on a lower league striker? The same people excited about this signing because Warnock has brought him in would be crucifying Slade.

Not really lower league though, is he? Played at the same level as us last season.

Also worth noting that he turned down Ipswich and QPR to join us.

your missing the point here.
Slade arrived having never managed at this level in a twenty odd year career which yielded zero promotions.
of course fans had huge doubts about him.
then within 3 months he had assessed the squad and come to the conclusion that with KJ, Guerra,Mason,ALF ,Maynard, Macheda berget and Healy here, rather than work to find the best partnership / get the best out of the players here .that he needed better striker options so bought Doyle and Revell ??????????????????
this type { just one example of many } of complete idiocy only confimed peoples doubts.
Warnock arrived having spent most of his career at the top 2 levels having won promotions and had many successes keeping poor squads up...
and of course fans had confidence in him because of this record...
the saying YOU EARN TRUST isnt just a saying.
within HIS first 3 months he had turned us around, made signings without there even being a window and was getting performances people didnt think ossible weeks earlier from those already here.
all of this confirmed peoples confidence.
i wish Warnock or someone like Warnock had taken over then ,when we had all that under used talent about the place.
