The striker ready to fire Cardiff City to the PL?

Veteran boss Neil Warnock has made his intentions clear: he wants a record-breaking eighth promotion to the Premier League with Cardiff City, even though Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has had to restrict the funds available for Warnock.

Veteran boss Neil Warnock has made his intentions clear: he wants a record-breaking eighth promotion to the Premier League with Cardiff City. Invariably, spear-heading any successful promotion campaign is a striker capable of netting 25 times a season – that man who has emerged ready to take on this responsibility is Kenneth Zohore, City’s Danish powerhouse.

When Warnock took over at City in November of last season the Bluebirds were a stale and tedious outfit. They had hit rock-bottom in the league and showed little sign of improving on their position. The Bluebirds boasted sufficient talent, but Paul Trollope was unable to galvanise such quality and direct it into a cohesive team. With relegation a very real threat, the hierarchy appointed Warnock.
His arrival – as one would expect – signalled a revival. A revival which soon became a renaissance – there was a time when City fans were beginning to flirt with the prospect of the playoffs. Job done, though, as City never really looked like facing life in League One next season.
The next task for Warnock was to build a team capable of fighting for promotion next time around. Repeatedly, Warnock had issued calls for funds to be made available for a striker. When it became increasingly apparent that such a kitty would not be made available in January, Warnock and Zohore met in a moment of ‘do-or-die’.

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has had to restrict the funds available for Warnock.

The notoriously blunt manager informed Zohore that he would be sent back to Belgian, where he had previously been on loan if he did not improve his work rate and start producing. Crucially, too, Warnock explained that Zohore would be City’s first-choice striker if he demonstrated the aptitude and quality necessary for such a role.
The meeting worked: Zohore would score ten goals in eleven games and fire City to relative safety. Zohore illustrated an incipient authority on the pitch, utilising his bulk, yet combining it with surprising speed. Some of his finishes, too, were of the highest quality: delicate lobs, surging runs, emphatic volleys. In 24 appearances Zohore found the net 12 times, assisting five. It appeared Cardiff City had unearthed a gem.

Now, the responsibility increases. The pressure is amplified as expectation manifests itself. Warnock will rely on Zohore to lead Cardiff’s attack – if Cardiff City is to have any hope of promotion then the Dane must net at least twenty goals. Over the summer, he must work on adding a poacher’s instinct to his game. For most of his goals had come from individual brilliance.
Zohore started for Denmark U’21 against the Czech Republic in this summer’s U’21 European Championships, scoring twice and assisting twice. What is promising, though, for City fans is the nature of the goals he scored for Denmark – both were poacher’s goals. One was a faint touch from an outstretched leg as he raced to reach the end of a cross, and the other a composed volley from inside the six-yard box. Both goals indicate that Zohore is learning how to score goals first time, instinctively.

The arrival of Danny Ward from Rotherham for a reported £1.6 million will only complement Zohore’s game. Ward is a vibrant attacker, capable of pairing with Zohore, dropping into the no.10 or playing out wide. Ward will seek to lift the burden from Zohore by chipping in with his own goal tally: anything above ten goals would represent a successful season. Ward’s energy will mean Zohore has less running and chasing to do – this jaded his game as the season reached its conclusion last time out. He will have more energy left in the tank for the driving runs and physical dominance that has come to typify his game.
Zohore has a daunting responsibility but he has shown all the traits necessary in fulfilling this task – expect the imposing Dane to lead Cardiff City to promotion contention next season.

Fair play. I was wondering what reporter had penned this, a good, considered read. Thanks.
