Loic Damour pledges to pay back Cardiff City fans for warm welcome with performances on the pitch - Wales Online

New Cardiff City signing Loic Damour is relishing the challenge of Championship football next term and has already pledged to pay back the fans that have welcomed him to South Wales.

The midfielder became the club's sixth signing of the summer on Thursday after completing a free transfer, and soon received a deluge of welcome messages on social media.

Having already lived in the city for a week, the 26-year-old appears to already be loving life in the Welsh capital, and has been delighted by the reaction to his arrival from Bluebirds fans, adding that he is eager to pay them back over the coming season.

However, he expects the standard of English football to be well ahead of what he has experienced in France.

He told French website Le Progres: "I was very well received by the fans, and I cannot wait to give them something back on the pitch.

"I am very excited to arrive at this club. This is a good opportunity for my career. In all honesty, English football is on another planet in terms of infrastructure and organisation. Only four or five big Ligue 1 clubs compete."

However, while he insists he is aware of the challenges that lie ahead, the Frenchman has no intention of changing his approach, having played a key role in previous club Bourg-en-Bresse's successful bid for Ligue 2 survival.

"I hope to have fun and I set no limits," he added. "I will be exactly in the same state of mind as in Bourg, where it took me seven months before winning the confidence of the coach. But I will not let go.

"As I said at the end of last season, I needed a new challenge to see what I have in my belly. I am physically ready for this challenge. That's what I wanted."

Despite Damour's arrival, Neil Warnock is still on the look out for further recruits before the close of the window.

He told iFollow Cardiff City: "I've got one or two irons in the fire for different positions, I'm looking for goals, make no mistake about that, from the midfield area and from the striking area.

"At the moment I'm not looking for anybody other than a midfielder and two forwards."

That's what you want to hear. Anybody can say it but he seems to have a desire to make it work here at Cardiff, all the best to him this season and hopefully he turns out to be a gem
