There has been plenty of reaction to the news on social media

Swansea City and Everton fans have reacted to the news that Gylfi Sigurdsson is not travelling with Paul Clement's squad for their pre-season tour of America.

The 27-year-old featured in the second-half of the Swans' 1-0 pre-season opener against Barnet at The Hive Stadium last night, but the club confirmed on Thursday morning that the Iceland international would not be a part of the touring party for their trip across the Atlantic, stating he "did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future".

Ronald Koeman's Everton have lodged a £40m bid for the Iceland international who has also been the subject of interest from 2015-16 Premier League champions Leicester.

And it's safe to say there has been plenty of reaction to the news on social media...

Here's how the Swansea fans reacted...

Everton target Gylfi Sigurdsson pulls out of Swansea City's pre-season tour of the US

Star man Gylfi withdraws from summer trip to the States as Everton make £40million offer

13 JUL 2017

Gylfi Sigurdsson is not travelling with Swansea City for their tour of the US with Everton having made a bid of £40million for the Iceland international.

The 27-year-old featured in the second-half of the Swans' 1-0 pre-season defeat to Barnet last night, being handed the captain's armband by manager Paul Clement.

However, the club confirmed on Thursday morning that their star man was not heading out on their pre-season tour.

In a post on their official Twitter account, they wrote: "We can confirm that Gylfi Sigurdsson will not travel with the squad for our pre-season tour of the USA.

"Having played v Barnet last night, Gylfi did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future."

Everton have tabled a £40m offer for Sigurdsson, but Swansea are unlikely to accept the bid given the £50million price tag the Welsh club put on the player's head earlier this week.

Leicester had also tried for Sigurdsson, slapping in a £40m offer of their own.

However, Everton have been his most persistent pursuers. The package currently being offered is understood to include the potential to rise with various add-ons.

Sigurdsson skippered the Swans during the second half at The Hive but, following the game, the former Tottenham midfielder told the club he did not feel mentally right to travel given the uncertainty over his future which has shown no signs of abating since last season came to a close.

Clement had stated after the game that Sigurdsson's head had not been turned by the ongoing transfer saga, and that he had made clear to the player his own desire for him to remain with the Welsh club.

But the head coach had acknowledged that the sums of money that could be offered meant a Swansea exit for Sigurdsson was a possibility.

"I've made it very clear I want him to stay here. The fans want that, the owners would like that but, ultimately, there's a business side to football as well," he said.

"We had that situation with Jack Cork. In the summer there was no thought of moving Jack on but it got to a point when another club came in with a really good offer."That might end up being the case with Gylfi. We don't know yet."

Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson

While his team-mates jet off to the US for a 10-day trip including three fixtures as preparations for the new Premier League campaign step up, Sigurdsson will instead return to South Wales where he is expected to hold talks with chairman Huw Jenkins.

But Swansea are not expected to soften their stance when it comes to the fee, and Everton may well find an improved offer will yet be required if Ronald Koeman is to land a player he has targeted since being appointed Blues boss last summer.

Everton have already signed the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez this summer, recouping much of their outlay with the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

This is why Roque Mesa will wear Swansea City's number 51 shirt

Sigurdsson has three years remaining on the four-year contract he signed last summer, a deal which made him Swansea's best paid player. He has won the club's Player of the Year award in each of the last two seasons, becoming the first man to retain the prize.

Across his two spells in South Wales, either side of a frustrating period at Spurs, he has made 131 appearances in all competitions and scored 37 goals.

When asked about his future in May he had said he was happy to stay at the Liberty Stadium, and would only leave if the club wanted to sell him.

Sigurdsson informed Clement of his desire to withdraw from the US tour following the friendly at Barnet
“I expect to stay. I signed a new contract last summer and I’ve got three years left, so it’s down to the club if they want to sell me. It’s down to them, but I’m very happy here," he had said.

“I’m not trying to leave, not desperate to go or anything. It’s not like I want to go, it’s just very calm and I’m not focused or concentrating on what people are writing.

“I’ve always been happy here and you only have to look at the coaching staff who came in to see there are good things happening here. They’re top notch and Paul Clement knows what he’s doing.”

I was hoping they'd go down last season - was keen on another less important derby to watch

I wanted this done and dusted before I went on holiday, but not looking likely. Unfortunately I think it will drag on into next week. I think we will improve as an overall team with the sale of Gylfi, providing we invest in a decent replacement.

Can't see it mate. He's been the best player for few years and would be a massive loss. Tom carol won't be the answer
